Franken-Third Gen Question

A 4013TSW slide on a 4006TSW frame WILL make an interesting SSV in 40 cal.

So I have both guns (the 4006TSW is CHP)...is there any fitting that would be needed? Or should it just slide on and it's ready to go.

I can see the advantages, greater capacity on a shorter barrel. But not sure it will carry IWB easier with the longer grip on the 4006.

I'll need to read this thread again to see what kind of mix-n-match I can do with what I've got.

Interesting stuff. Thanks.

I couldn't agree more! ;)

Yep just slide it on and try it!

It will either slip right on or, in a very few cases, it will get tight.

That is because different parts were made on different machines on different days.

But they were all made to the same specifications.

And by the time of the TSW models, the S&W machine operators were getting pretty good at running the new CNC machines and making very consistent parts.

John: Alas, I have a pair that just miss mating. Slide goes on but I can't rack it. I can feel it's binding hard and as I waited a long time to get the CHP I ain't fool'n around with it.

Now to see what else I can play with.

FWIW.... Squidsix and I each built a 6915..... 6906 frame with a 4" 915 slide.

A classic two tone concealed carry 12+1 9mm with a 4" blue barrel/slide..... extra carry mag is a 15rd 5905 mag with +2 adaptor.

I liked this CCO concept so much that when Squidsix offered his for sale, to move on to another project, I bought his.

I DID IT!.. Put a 4513TSW slide on my 4566TSW! Wow, it works.

Now what am I gonna do?.. The match only gives me one more round and a shorter front end, but the grip is still larger than the 4513. But it sure looks good, and yes, alas, I put everything back together and back in the safe and forgot to take a pic. Mea Culpa.

This is fun stuff. I've got a 6906 on the way and can't wait to see if it will fit on my 5906 or even 5946, which BCMC is converting over to DA/SA. I may buy some more Gen 3s just to swap frames and slides!

I’ve been watching the 4013’s go for stupid money on the big auction site. I’ve been planning a 10mm conversion but can’t justify the cost so I ordered a 1066 slide assembly, I already had a barrel, guide rod and spring. When the slide arrived it turned out to be for a 1076. Went back and checked Numrich and the 1066 was now showing out of stock so I fit the barrel to the slide anyway and put it all on my 4516 frame. Everything worked perfectly, the lack of a decocker or safety made me not comfortable with the combo. So I returned the 4516 to stock. I could safely lower the hammer but chose to wait for a decock slide.
I am considering putting it on my 4536 frame....hmmm maybe!

These are indeed a lot of fun to work with.

I've idly wondered what would be needed to build a 3944/46. There are parts listings for those guns at various places, but there is no evidence that any were produced for sale.

I think it would be a real Frankengun as there is no suitable frame that could be used. Comparing my 6906 and 6946, the slide and frame on the '46 are longer. That seems to be to accommodate the "hump back" hammer on the DAO gun.

Probably the closest someone could come would be to replace the safety with a firing pin retainer and file the single action notch off of the hammer. More like the 3914DAO and CS9D than anything else.

Gary, one could also substitute the TSW DAO fire control parts for the TDA parts of the 3904/6 models.

This would create an ersatz 3944/6 that would retain the S&W style "partially cocked" DAO instead of the "second strike" DAO of the 3914DAO and CS9D.

Like this: 6906 Conversion to DAO

Are you referring to the later DAO guns that used the standard length frame and slide?
