Well, this is an old thread, but worth talking about.
Brass cannot scratch the slide of an M&P pistol. The treatment they use on the slide is too hard. What you see as a scratch is really brass left behind from the casing. It will clean off with a little hard scrubbing. Or, you can just chalk it up as a character mark. I vote for the latter.
