FSU mass shooting

The one in AR sounds like typical gang activity.

The FL kid is said to have participated in anti Trump demonstrations and pro Palestinian rallies. Does that indicate his motive? Not necessarily. Mental issues and / or related prescription treatment for such is a recurring theme with these types of murder sprees.

My brother lives in Conway and has not mentioned that shooting.

The FSU shooting seems to have lots of bad factors underlying it. To me, and for my values and life, it seems to validate my determination to ignore the gunfree zone crud most of the time. Most of those postings do not have the force of law.

Not sure where you obtained the info about the FSU shooter from but I just watched an interview with some students who were in a political discourse club with him and they indicated his leanings would have been the other way than what you stated.

Who knows what went on in the person's mind but clearly this was not a sane rational decision.

FSU Shooting Info:
My #4 Son was attending a mandatory class in Tallahassee. The class was composed of 15 LEOs. When the first news of the shooting my Son and one other LEO left the class and reponsed (off duty and from agencies in the central of Florida.) On arrival it was mass confusion. My Son dressed out and went to find the shooting scene. All the responding LEOs were on different radio channels. My Son did not know the lay out of the campus and ending up alone at the building were the shooting was. He entered a door on the back and found a older male who ID as a custodian. The custodian led him to places were students were hiding. After guiding the students to safety He re-entered and searched for the shooter. He found the two dead victims, one was a handicap male who was trying to hopple to a exit when the shooter came up on his rear and shot him thru the back of the head. The second victim was lying at a door. Both were attempting to escape. My Son then joined several other officers, who were armed only with service pistols (My Son was the only one of the group with a M-16 plus vest, extra magazine, service pistol and radio.) The group searched and secured the building. When My Son returned to class he discovered that the other LEOS stayed in the class despite what was happening at FSU. My Son said that all Federal, State, and Local Agencies were at the school. Back at the Class several of the LEO Administrators asked what went on at the school ?

I suspect the LEOs here are going to flame me for this, but from a Command and Control point of view, NOBODY without a radio for the responsible agency should have been anywhere near that campus. How far is it from jimmyj's son or somebody else being called in as, "Random guy dressed as a cop." Throw in the odd plainclothes officer and the situation is ripe for tragedy.

In regard to the above post I would say once the initial threat is over and you are sweeping the area for secondary threats, victims, etc.. then you have a valid point.

When the shooter is active the response is to go toward the shooting and eliminate the threat.

If you are the first guy there that is what you are expected to do.

At that point there is no "command and control".

You wait to establish a command then you have what you got in Uvalde, TX.

Love how the media focused on the most whimpy male(?) that could be found to cry about not filling safe, this after the shooter was shot and arrested. I wanted to scream, "Man up!" but that would require him having what it takes to be one.

I thought the Uvalde issue was that the multiple agencies couldn't decide who was in charge. Yes, the school resource officer should have been in like Flint, but the follow up just reminded me of why in most other countries there is but one version of LE.

It was a failure at many levels.

The officers who were first on scene failed to take action and go to the threat. When we first started active shooter training the model was to get 4 people then go in using a diamond shape to clear the building.

That changed as more incidents happened and outcomes showed that when the suspect was confronted by an armed response they tended to give up or self-solve the problem.

This resulted in current training that said first person on the scene gear up and go toward the gunfire. Subsequent arrivals are to do the same until problem is solved.

That didn't happen in Uvalde. Shortly in the School PD Chief took control and declared it a barricaded subject. Which the shooter was not as he was still shooting victims. At one point an officer was restrained and not allowed to go in to save people. One of which was his wife, a teacher at the school.

The Chief and I believe the officer assigned to the school were charged criminally for abandoning the children. I honestly don't know what was the outcome of those charges.

Two years ago My #3 Son was Shift Sergent and Dispatch advised of a active shooter in a business. My Son was close by and was the first unit to arrive. He heard gunshots from inside the business and responded into the business. Found two gunshot victims. applied first aid , carried the two victims outside and went back in to find the shooter. On arrival of other units the scene was secured and My son located and arrested the shooter. No one "Monday Morning Quarterbacked" him. Instead He was awarded the Medal Of Valor. Years before My #1 Son was awarded the same Medal for saving the life of a Deputy Sheriff while He was off Duty.
