Hello,
I recently bought an MP 1522 and thankfully found this site. I have learned alot, but I have quick question I haven't been able to determine the answer to. I have shot mine twice now. I have run Federal, Remington and Winchester through it and I am getting many FTE (today...every other). It is a DTX serial. I thought SW had fixed the extractor problem, that is why I bought one. So I wanted to try to fix the extractor, if that is the problem, like I have seen in the videos on here.

My question is, is the extractor supposed to touch the bolt? Right now I have a VERY small gap. I know people are saying only bend it 1/16 or less. But right now my gap is less than a 1/16...should it touch? Only bend it towards the port? Any other suggestions? I love the gun when it does shoot (which is rare). It is accurate, but FTE are making me hate it.

Should I just send it back? Thanks.

there is a thread called ejector.. on here that shows a pic of the ejector and how it should look

Just leave enough room to slide an index card between them. If it's that close and still not ejecting properly you may want to take a good look at the extractor or just send it in to be repaired.

Ejector-Extractor dyslexia is common and frequent with most of us. :p

Failure to Eject, the problem you're describing, is most frequently cured with a tweak of the ejector. It is less frequently caused by a bad extractor, or dirt/grease in that region of the bolt that prevents the extractor from holding the case firmly against the bolt face until it strikes the ejector. Third in order is severely underpowered ammo, poor lubrication, or anything that prevents the bolt from being blown back sharply and fully. The case just falls off the bolt.

(Blow back firearms don't "extract" cases. The case is blown out of the chamber and pushes the bolt back with it. It's coming out unless the bolt doesn't get out of the way. If it falls off the face of the bolt before striking the ejector you get a Failure to Eject. That's the main purpose of the extractor here.)

The ejector adjustment is well documented. If that doesn't cure the problem and the rifle is squeaky clean and lightly lubed with CLP it's due for a free ride to S&W.
