SWEEEeeeeeet..............

Pictures in the "Gun Rags" in the mid-80s had me wanting one...... the ASP's sights were too weird for me but the Devel and Trapper guns..... lit a fire of want!!!!!!

Grabbed an early 469..... hated the grips ..... but then the 6906 and 3913......... dreams realized!!!!!

Here is my 39 Devel Full House Conversion: The sister to yours. It would be great to have 1 of each. I have fired mine and it was quite impressive. The 439 then the 3913 could not come out soon enough for S&W. They missed a opportunity early on but that's how large companies generally work. They made up for it later in volume.

THANKS FOR POSTING THIS VERY INFORMATIVE ARTICLE......

I WAS A G&A SUBSCRIBER FOR MANY YEARS. I MUST HAVE READ THIS ARTICLE--WORD FOR WORD--AT LEAST 20 TIMES........

A DEVOUT COLT 1911, AND .45ACP FAN--- LIKE THE AUTHOR, I WAS UNIMPRESSED WITH THE VAST ARRAY OF SEMI-AUTOS ON THE MARKET. I DID FIND A FRIEND OF MINE'S NICKEL PLATED M39-2 TO BE VERY ATTRACTIVE---BUT I VIEWED THE 9MM CARTRIDGE WITH DISDAIN, HOWEVER......

NEEDLESS TO SAY, AFTER REPEATEDLY READING THIS ARTICLE, AND THOROUGHLY DIGESTING ITS CONTENT---I LUSTED AFTER A DEVEL, FOR SEVERAL YEARS ! ! !

HOPEFULLY, REREADING THIS ARTICLE WILL NOT RE-IGNITE THIS PASSION. THEY MUST COST CRAZY MONEY AT THIS POINT IN TIME.....

What a blast from the past!

A thread like this is worth the price of admission alone. And seeing the Bob Milek article was a double blessing. I read Guns & Ammo cover to cover growing up and I loved all of Bob Milek's articles as much as I loved reading Elmer Keiths.

I so desperately wanted one of the Devel's back then, but it was the dream of a farm boy—so I pretended that my beloved Ruger Single Six was a super-cool Devel, "James Bond" gun. The rabbits, squirrels, barn rats and varmits did not know any different.

As an aside;

Millet use to make a wide red (or white) bar on a ramp sight similar to the one seen on the Devel in the original post in this thread.

The only gun I ever saw come from the factory with it was the Browning Practical model... I was able to find two; one red and one white which I added to my two Browning Mk III Hi-Powers.

While wide for target work for "Practical" applications they pick up fast.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming!

Great post. Brings me back alright.
I recall coveting that sweet pistol and dog-earing my copy of G&A purchased at the newsstand in town. Yup, hooked.
Was way too young to buy one at the time, but later fully embraced the S&W 2nd & 3rd Gen goodness.

Never did get a Devel though. Very cool!

S&W brought out the 469/669 then the 6906 in response to the Devel.
Pick up one of these and you will have a Devel in almost all respects. I know. I have them both.

I also have a full house 39-2 that I bought together with this 59. It's not in nearly as nice condition as the 59 and I will probably try to have it restored in the near future, though it shoots just fine.
