Full-stroke DAO pistols, different spring?

On the full-stroke DAO pistols (CS9, 3914DAO, etc) is the recoil spring the same strength as a normal TDA?

Got to wondering when I realized that on the full-stroke DAO's, the slide has the hammer (and mainspring) helping it along as the slide returns to battery. This is not the case on the TDA's.

Related question: Does the disconnecter serve any purpose in the full-stroke DAO's? With no SA notch and essentially no sear function, there is no need to "disconnect" the trigger bar, correct?

I just looked at the 59XX series, and the recoil springs are all the same per the 1999 parts book. Would assume the others work that way, if for no other reason than to simplify parts stock.

If it came with a disconnector, I'd assume it has some purpose.

My only DAO is a 3953,
When the slide rebounds and is in the resting position the hammer is not resting on the slide, it's more resting in a half cock position.
When you pull the trigger it feels slightly lighter than a decocked TDA but it's still pretty heavy.
Btw no 2nd strike if you get a light primer strike and that is the main reason I dispise the SW dao triggers.
You will notice on a 3953 the slide is longer at the rear to help shroud the smooth spurless hammer as well...(another thing I dislike), when in the cocked position you can see a bit of the hammer so you know it is in the ready to go position.

Yes, 3953 et al are a different animal.

When I say “full-stroke DAO” I mean a trigger pull just like the first pull on a TDA, and these guns all have restrike capability. CS9D and 3914DAO are like that.

The 3953 et al have a shorter pull, a partially cocked hammer, and no restrike.

JohnHL: ah yes, the mag safety! Forgot about that. :)

I thought that the spring and lever in the slide were the magazine safety, but i'm probably wrong.

I also thought that the job of a disconnecter was to keep guns from running full auto?

Again, I'm probably wrong.

Spring and plunger in slide push down on ejector & mag depressor (when mag removed) which pushes down disconnector which pushes down on drawbar disconnecting it from hammer. (whew )

On "some" guns, you would be correct.

Did the police contract DAO 5946's have an increased/ heavier DAO trigger pull? if so what did they use and what is "normal"?
Thanks, Mike

According to S&W parts lists dated 05/08/2012 (the latest I've seen), ALL of the full length grip frame pistols (9mm; 10mm; 40; 45; DAO; TDA) used the same mainspring: S&W p/n 103620000.

Wolff Gun Springs says this is standard weight at 20lbs.

Wolff also reports that some 4046 models were fitted with a 16lb spring.

I've never seen or heard any reports of a "heavier" spring being installed by S&W on a factory contract.

Of course the unwritten rule with S&W continues to be, "Never say never".
