Some years ago it was easy to find a "fun" .22 LR revolver. Many companies made 20-25 ounce revolvers with a 6 inch barrel and adjustable sights. One of the best was S&W "1953 model 22/32 target". 25 ounces, 6 inch, good adjustable sights and, I believe a wide "target" hammer spur option. Perfect for informal "target" shooting (leave the formal stuff up to a model 17 probably), plinking and fun small game hunting. S&W has brought back several "vintage" guns (including the model 17) and this would be a welcome addition. The 17 is a bit heavy for these uses. Instead of "vintage", how about squeezing in an 8 shot cylinder?

The pre 17, the s&w k22 revolver in 22lr with a 6" barrel was spot on. I think there is room in the nitch in the market for a k22/k17 style revolver and a ten shot heavier L frame revolver in 22lr.

I would personally like to see a s&w revolver that's a convertible in 22lr & 22wmr. Maybe a top loader? Let's call it the s&w 22.0 ??

The 617 kind of fills that niche for them now on the larger side. There's the 63, 317 and 43c on the smaller side - though they obviously aren't making 63's anymore and precious few 317s.

What you're looking for is the 34 in the 23ish ounces range. Or the 63 with a longer barrel methinks.

I find k frames too heavy for fun revolvers which I call kitguns and 6in is too much barrel. I assume that all modern jframes have the same length cylinder and window which limits how light a kitgun can be. I think my beloved round butt 4 inch model 34 is the best handgun of any action, of any caliber, of any barrel length ever made. The only thing comes close is my 3" 317.

i want a .22lr with 3" barrel, stainless & wood grip that looks beautiful

I been purchasing the H&R 22cal revolvers. I think that H&R holds the record for so many different models.

When it comes to fun .22 LR revolvers, the be all to end all is the little 18-3. I've owned one or more since 1982. They are unsurpassed for anything you might want to do with a .22LR revolver short of high level target competition. The 18 is light, handy, accurate beyond all expectation and a tough as a tank. In SA it shoots like a laser beam. I've fired six shot groups at 65 long steps that ran under five inches using a Weaver stance and shooting outdoors with the vagaries of wind and bugs to contend with. Firing in DA one can with practice keep cylinder after cylinder inside of 2-3 inches at 25 yds. firing from a Weaver stance.

About the only things I can think of that would make the 18 better is if S&W were to produce it in stainless steel w/ a spare cylinder in .22 Magnum. Fact is I've been giving a whole lot of thought to finding a loose .22 Magnum cylinder for sale and seeing if it could be fitted to my 18-3. I think it'd be a great combination for both the field and the range. JMHO. Sincerely. brucev.

I have said it before and here it goes again . A scandium 18 or 17 or 617 would be a fun gun . I would buy one right away , because I can't seem to get enough S&W .22's .

617? I think I found my next love a 617. The 4" & 6" barrels get my vote the satin stainless looks awesome. I wish it was in nickel?

Dear S&W,

How about boosting your new gun revolver sales. I think a frequent New revolvers discount card would be nice? A discount of 5% / 10% would be nice for the frequent purchasers of new S&W firearms. Let us help you, it's a win win for all of us loyal s&w gun purchasers. Spread the s&w love.

Question about your 4" 617 bdGreen

Only noticed in the photo with the cylinder open and since I'm not sure I'll have to ask, is that cylinder made from Aluminum or another lite weight allow?
Thank you Sir

How about the model 43 with a 8 or 10 round cylinder. Also with a choice of bbl lengths.

If I had a blank slate, it would be a Model 48 in stainless with the Model 53 .22 Jet style barrel (nee Model 19) with an extra .22 LR cylinder. I don't care whether it has 6 or more charge holes, but it better have flutes and it needs to be stainless, not alloy. I'd also like to see this offered in 17 HMR as well. And don't forget an 8-3/8" barrel option.

My best two 22 caliber revolvers are the '48 s&w k22/6" barrel and my colt officers target revolver / 6" barrel built on the 41 colt frame. The colt is a really nice revolver because of the larger frame and it feels awesome. The H&R 22 revolvers are neat too.

Go for the H&R 22cal revolvers there affordable and good revolvers.
