Funniest things you have heard in a gun shop

At the Dallas gun show in August, I came back to the table with a Hammerli free pistol. It's very accurate, built on the martini action, and single shot, of course. I was showing it to the guy at the next table and he asked: "Did you get an extra magazine with it?"

Here is a question we get about once or twice a week. Someone will come in wanting a value on a firearm. Sometimes they know the brand but many times all they know is it is a shotgun, handgun or rifle.

The conservation usually goes something like this. The person comes and says I have a shotgun what is it worth? I ask them make, model etc. Does it matter, it is old so what is it worth?

I had a phone call at the store one day from a nice woman. She asked me; "What's your phone number there?"

I started chuckling and asked her; "Is this a trick question?"

She started laughing and said "I didn't mean it to be! You see, my husband has your number on speed dial, and I just wanted to write it down".

So I gave it to her. The phone number, that is. :D

I reload handgun ammo and was chatting with my son about it at a LGS. The young clerk became interested and joined in, stating he was going to be the new reloading sales person soon. When my son inquired about a certain powder load, the sales person said, "On hand guns it doesn't really matter, you fill the case to the top anyway." Yup, heard if from the experts. Which by the way, when broken down phonetically come to this;

Ex-spert

Ex = A has been
Spert =A drip under pressure

I work at one, here are my 3 favorites

zig soyer - sig sauer

and south and western - S&W

Need I forget the Westchester lever guns- hear it weekly.

Need I say more.

Pete

You left out, "Thompson Centerfire."
I work at a shop too.

.22's-----
Cust.: Ya got any .22 longs?
Me: 'Fraid not, sir. BTW, do mean .22 long rifle? Just asking because there is such a thing as .22 long which is different from the long rifle which is generically referred to as .22's. Just asking so in case you run into a kid at Wal-Mart or someplace, if they have .22 Longs, he may actually wind up giving you the wrong ammo for your gun. That would suck."
Cust.: [blank look]

Cust.: Got any .22's? Ya didn't last week. Cain't find 'em NO-whars.
Me: Yessir, we do now.
Cust.: Are they hollowpoints?
Me: No sir, lead roundnose.
Cust: I don't want no dang roundnoses. (and off he goes.)

Cust.: Got any .22's?
Me: Sure do.
Cust: Are they hollowpoints?
Me: Yessir. There's a 2-box limit because of their scarcity at the moment.
Cust.: 2 boxes? Cain't find 'em No-whars but I ain't buyin' just 2 boxes. (and off he goes.)

Cust.: Got any .22's? Cain't find 'em NO-whars.
Me: Yeppir!
Cust: Are they hollowpoints?
Me: Yep.
Cust.: Got any bricks?
Me: Sure do.
Cust: Yer kiddin'! How much? Nobody has bricks!
Me: (price)
Cust: Too dang much! But I'll take all ya got.
Me: One brick per customer per day.
Cust: What? I don't want no part of that! (and off he goes.)
Generally followed by, "Wull, when are they goin' on sale?"

Not to mention the 5 or so times I've actually had people buy their limit for the day and then come back later IN DISGUISE to try to double up.

Really?

Don't forget scary humor.

Is that gun unloaded like the sign on the door reads? Yep. Let me see it, don't point it at me. Why there are 1, 2, 3 rounds in this shotgun.... I just checked it before I came in don't know how they got there.

It looks like the sour looking guy is carrying a Win Model 42. It looks like a block of rust. Hey can you guys reblue this and redo the stocks? How id this happen? I forgot it behind my truck seat in a zipped up case for a few years. I gotta get it redone, my Grandpa gave it to me, my Dad and Uncles will really be ticked if they see it this way. Just sent a Model 12 off to be redone, it was about $500. You guys are crazy I'm willing to spend a $100. Nice talking to you sir, save the $100 for the ER visit after your Dad sees gramps gun. NEXT.

There too many 30 Cal guns for novices to understand. IS the 300 Win and 300 WBY the same? No, it's just like Ford and Chevy. How's that? Every thing is different. Like what? Well you can get a Win Model 70 listed for each caliber. Yep, but it only can be used for the one written on the BBL. Why? NEXT.

The first is when a guy at a table is showing a M1 Garand to a potential customer and explains that the Circle P proof mark means the the the rifle was in Patton's Army.

Well technically it was, just like the M16A1 I was issued in basic training in 1988 was in "Patton's" Army :D

Seriously though gun show dealer he was probably just making stuff up to try and make a sale

My BG38 was misfiring. The gun shop guy asked if i was using handloads. I said yes. He said "there is your problem ". I asked to see the BG38 in the case to check the endshake. It was pretty loose. He sais "They are all like that"

My wife and I were in a gun store, I was looking at handguns, and she was playing with the Crimson Trace display, pointing the laser at little targets on the wall. The salesman says to her, "Those are fully adjustable for elevation and windage". She looks puzzled, and asks, "You have to adjust it according to the weather?"

The salesman smiled, and kept from laughing. I asked him if he'd be telling that story later, and he said, "Yeah, probably!"

There used to be a gun store in Milan, Ohio run by some local cops.

I overheard one of them say to another, "ALL gun sales should have to go through a gun store." There was general agreement on the proposition.

I never bought anything from them again, and let my friends know what I'd heard.

They're out of business now.

I guess the joke was on them...

During a discussion on a possible Alaska hunting trip, we were discussing the merits of the 454 Casull as a bear protection round. Young guy chimes in saying "I don't consider the 454 Casull to be big enough, you really need to go with a 7.62mm or, even better a 9mm. It is almost twice the size of the 454 Casull." Silence.

This isn't a gun shop story per se but a gunsmith story
There is a gun smith here who is most noted for working on 45 autos.
When a new customer comes in he'll go over the work requirements and set the customers gun on the counter.
When the customer gets distracted or starts looking around he'll quickly place the customers gun under the counter and pull out a welded up
junker 45 auto he keeps there.
That 45 then gets tossed over his shoulder back into the shop where it proceeds to bounce off various mill, lathes etc.
He then tells the customer to come back in two weeks but he'll call him if he finds his pistol sooner.
I cannot repeat some of the remarks that have been made after this over the years.

That's funny, though it seems like it would be hard on shop equipment - 3-pound hunk of steel bouncing off various mills, lathes, etc.

Reminds me of a prank the local radio station did on a guy.--Apparently the DJ had a friend who owned a nice automobile shop and learned of some cars in for oil changes and such.

Pretending to be a mechanic, called up a guy and told him,

".... that they were sorry but your Porsche fell off the lift.....we promise to fix it..."

It was recorded, much bleeps---very funny.

I guess it would be the day some poor misinformed fella said that our governor didn't want our guns.

The co-owner and gunsmith of a store here loved to hear guys bragging about their insanely high tolerance for fiery hot food. He kept a small bottle of pure capsaicin extract in the back room. He would dip the end of a toothpick in it, hand it to the biggest braggart, and tell him to "taste this." More than one literally wound up on his knees on the floor.

Did you guys know that a .357 Mag hp will sever an adults mans leg "clean off"? I learned that one Sunday before last. I didn't know.

Funny, everyone thought it was brilliant when an idiot claimed that a 44 magnum would blow your head "clean off"

funny how that works.

Thought it was stupid then and still do.
