I have just started my last collection of CCW's. So far have purchased the S&W Bodyguard 380, and the S&W M&P SHIELD 9mm. One more M&P to go once i decide whether it will be a 40 or not. One lesson i learned quickly was my poor choice of a rubber grip for the Bodyguard 380. As you fire and eject the first magazine the grip slips down so much that it prevents you from loading another mag until you move the grip back into place. To me thats a real big danger if you need a second mag with rounds. Sent it back to the company. They observed the problem and sent it back with a simple explanation " We saw your concern and we'll pass it on to our R&D department". Now i've bought many grips from this company over the years but you can bet i'll never buy another for ANY of my weapons again. Sooo went to the Talon company. Purchased their grips for both guns. They are simple to install, fit each weapon like a glove, do not move even a fraction of an inch. In closing my question is any suggestions on which caliber to go up to next?

I've had many carry guns throughout the years but they all had similar configurations. Standard mag release and a single sided thumb safety. My main guns ow is the BG380 for pocket or biking and the Shield in 9mm for everyday IWB carry. My previous carry guns were a P238 and Ultra Carry two and although they are both excellent guns, I put them in the safe as back-up carry weapons should I have one of the S&Ws out of commission for some reason.

I know the thumb safety is not needed on the BG380 but I use it anyhow since it's extremely positive yet easy to take on and off and keeps me in the same manual of arms as everything else. I actually find it easier than the Shield thumb safety since I seem to have to put my thumb up higher before flicking it downward. I hope S&W or some other company comes out with an extended version for the Shield some day.

As far as the rubber grips, I've never liked them even if they screw on. They always make the entire platform feel squishy and the sleeves do tend to shift.

As far as caliber, you can do quite well with 9mm only. I have a wide range of calibers so I could suggest a 45acp handgun since it's quite different and IMO, more fun to shoot and more consistent in the accuracy department. I'd say a 1911 should be your next purchase ;)
