Gander Mountain...ugghhh

I called the manager when they opened this morning. He didn't sound a bit surprised about what I experienced.

Matt

OH REALLY!?!?!:eek::eek: Speaks volumes right there. Make sure to point out the fact the rail was bent by this mechanical sadist.

I hope you are covered until you can get that fixed. You need to take that boy out and have some fun! and not let some consarned Goose Hill Walmart for guns get in your way.:)

Yeah this is a coyote/deer rifle. It's Turkey season here right now, can't hunt coyote, and my shotgun is working just fine. If I can just get off work to go. Since MO has a 1PM out of woods for spring season there is no evening hunt time.

Hope you are firm and get it done to your satisfaction. That much pressure on the zoom ring may have bent it or broke the seal where it may take condensation. I would demand a new scope or my money back. And free ammo for your loss of time. They'll say we can't do that and chuckle, tell him you will speak to his boss and the corporate office about that. One may not believe it but Cabelas messed up one time with me, I got 4 boxes of Winchester 7mm-08 ammo. They are not your friends, they are there to make money, your money, they need to earn that right and be fair when they error. Go get them.

Must be a relatively new store. Don't believe GM was in the STL metro area when I left 18 months ago. Or I would have driven down to see them.

The OP's experience is a perfect illustration of why the parking lot of the Gander Mountain near me (open only 6 months) is virtually empty any time I drive by it.

I don't blame you for being angry. That's about as sorry a job of mounting as I've ever seen. Pitiful, just pitiful. I hope you get the matter resolved to your satisfaction.

Sorry Kernel, I wouldn't EVEN think of using that JUNK! That set up is wrong, wrong and WRONG! I wouldn't stop until I got at least a full refund on all of it. I would then find a lgs to help me out and get all new fresh equipment. You don't take a file to that Chinese JUNK, regards Ernie

What "Chinese Junk" are you referring to? The rail is a USA made I ordered from another company not GM. The gun is USA made as well as the Vortex scope. Nothing Chinese built on this gun. Not even the rings. However I won't be grinding on anything.

Sorry, I tought the mount and rings, and poss scope where china, I retract the Chinese statement. After seeing the pic, and the suggestion of filing, grinding whatever, got me. I cant see how putting on the proper rings&mounts, "could open up other problems"? anyway I will keep my mouth shut and back out . Regards Ernie

I don't think Vortex scopes are American made. Their main office is just a short distance from where I live. Been to their many times. It's just a small show room in an industrial office park. They have some fine scopes, good prices, and great customer service, but they don't really make anything. It's all Pacific rim AFAIK.

If you go with the higher rings you might want to consider a cheek-pad for the comb of the rifle stock. That will help get your eye in line with the now higher scope and still allow for a good cheek-weld. Otherwise, without a good cheek weld, your head is kinda floating above the stock and recoil can beat you up pretty bad.

I try to buy American when I can. When I researched my setup I found this on their website.

"Since 1986 we have been and remain an American Owned, Veteran Owned, Family owned and operated business of hard-working folks located here in south central Wisconsin"
http://www.vortexoptics.com/content/about_you

That was enough for me to give their optics a good look.

Quick update. I went up to the store this am, and spoke with the manager. Explained what happened, explained I was not happy. He refunded all of my money on what I had bought for the scope, rings, and rail.

He then took me back to the firearms manager, told him what was going and told him to take care of getting me a new scope, rings, and get it boresighted. They set me up with a new Vortex scope, new rings(low profile in a different brand) and a rail. It was mounted, checking with me twice during the installation. Boresighted and allowed me to check it again. Then we checked out, I was given a percentage off all the items and in the end I am a happy customer as they both went out of their way to fix what their employee messed up. And I went home with more money in my pocket than I started the day with. Although it was my money that was refunded. I now have a deer rifle, scoped and ready to final sight in.

Wasn't the ideal way to get it done, however it is done.

Glad they made it right.

For those chuffing about Chinese made parts, it's irrelevant in this case. US or European stuff would have been equally buggered by that mechanical sadist.

I took her to the range tonight to final dial it in. I think it's pretty darn close. No Rifle rest, just me holding the gun and shooting just like I would when hunting. This is 25 yards aimed about 2 inches higher than point of impact. Again all handheld. With a rest I could probably put them through the same hole.
