You can still buy the old style spouts. Bought one for my weed eater gas can.

EZ-Pour Gas Can Replacement Spout Kit 2 Spouts, 7 Piece Kit, $13 bucks TYD, from amazon.
They work great (I have several) and you can chunk the CA compliant things in the trash.

The weight of the 5 gallon jug got heavy in my older years so I bought an electric fuel pump and 20 feet of fuel hose and a shut off valve and a lawn mower battery. Wish I had did it years ago. After you use it a few times it gets easy. I have a spare pickup truck I don't use much and keep the 32 gallon tank full for that use.

One of the items I am always watching for is the old GI gas cans. Solid steel with steel spout and cap. Getting harder to find, but they still show up at estate sales and farm auctions, if you have the time and inclination to go that route.

The new California-compliant fuel cans are worse than worthless; I think they are dangerous for some uses.

Hey Caj, I just ordered a 3 pack of replacement gas can spouts from Amazon and will be trying them on some of the newer cans. I will let you know how they work for me. In my case, I have a couple of older gas cans that could use the spouts too, so they won't go to waste. The kit has 3 spouts, 3 vents and 2 different types of screw caps (coarse and fine thread).

Here's a link to the ones I ordered:

What's the main thing that breaks apart on a fuel can? The dang spout. I see a lot of fuel cans with no spouts on them. I probably have two myself.
Yeah these new fangled no spill spouts are a PITA to use and they break rather quickly. For filling my tractor from a 5 gallon fuel can I set the can on top of tractor and use a siphon to transfer the fuel. Try holding a 5 gallon can of fuel upside down while trying to get that little nub on the spout to stay on the tank opening neck edge without the dang spout slipping off the fill neck. The spouts on my new tanks last a long time because I don't use the dang things. I just use them to seal the tank closed to prevent spilling or contamination getting into the tank.
Siphons don't cost much and a lot less PITA to use.

This was an EPA initiative under a former administration. Someone in the EPA decided that the minuscule amount of gasoline vapor that escaped when you filled your lawn mower was ruining the atmosphere.

I bought one of those EZ Pour spouts and never looked back.

Just remember, lawyers are the people that sued many companies into bankruptcy because of stupid people that were careless in the past.

These new cans are a spill waiting to happen.
I hate these items designed to protect us from ourselves.

If you cannot operate a simple old fashioned gasoline jug with traditional nozzle, one would question if you would be competent enough to vote, take care of yourself, operate heavy equipment or automobiles, or even a simple internal combustion motor that would require the gasoline to begin with. If you need Big Brother to design a safer gas spout so you don't torch yourself, maybe you shouldn't be using a gas can in the first place.

Tractor Supply carries the replacement spouts. They seem to sell readily.

I have a flexible metal spout that was on an old metal gas can my father owned. That can is long gone, but I still have the spout, and to this day, take it with me when I buy a new can, to make sure it fits.
