Gas can spouts

You use less gas if you can't get it out of the can. It's better for the environment. ;)

I drilled 1/4'' vent holes into my three plastic "cans" I use for my old boat and put rubber stoppers (corks) in them. The one I use for my sxs 4 wheeler I cut the spout in half to properly dispose of the "valve" safety mechanism. The two I use for the diesel tractor I just remove the entire nozzle and pour into a funnel.

I have one of these I bought 30 years ago and I've been offered $50 for it at the local station. Of course I said no thanks.

These weren't laws, they are worse than that. They were regulations written by unaccountable bureaucrats who don't care what you or I think.

Congress passes laws and then lets the various federal agencies enact the regulations that enforce the laws.

Don't ya just love how all the Politicians pass Gas Can laws and more than likely have absolutely no idea about them. I highly doubt they mow their own lawns, plow their own snow or cut down their own trees and therefore have no idea how really bad these "environmentally friendly" NOT the new spouts and cans really are.

Sort of like Gun Control!

Does ANYONE know of a decent spout??? Some of the contraptions they use to protect us from ourselves are damn near impossible to use.

I'm presently feeling your pain. Some miscreant decided he needed my five gallon red plastic gasoline container with a plain ole spout more than me. I went to buy a new one a month ago. It still has the first five gallons of gasoline I bought inside, because I can't make the NASA airlock spout work. You're supposed to hold up a lever and pull back on the whole apparatus while hoisting 40 pounds of gasoline high enough to fill the tractor.

Time for garage sale scavenging. This is what they stole from me, a Blitz five gallon container with a no moving parts spout. I have three of their five gallon kerosene containers in blue. They're the bomb, but I can't find them new around here . . .

Or how about the spring loaded one where you have to push the nozzle against the opening of the tank in order for gas to flow. Works great if you need several ounces of gasoline on the workbench when filling the chain saw, or need to take the paint off of the plastic around the filler on the lawn tractor....

Don't you all realize that the new spout designs are .gov mandated vapor recovery devices to save the planet and insure the baby polar bears don't run out of ice to climb on? I don't like polar bears, so I made my own spouts out of rubber hose with a pipe nipple and cap screwed on the end. Normal gas cans were outlawed by the same people that took away incandescent light bulbs.

Yes!! Ironsides. I have mine from ~ 35 years ago. I lost the smallest of the caps, can't find another one, so it's plugged with a cork. I keep it about half full and it's become the weekly lawnmower filler, replenished from one of the red Blitz cans.
My wife, who actually LIKES to cut the grass (lucky me!), finds a full 5 gallons too heavy.

I have a collection of about 10 funnels, all different shapes and sizes. Worst comes to worst can always get liquids transferred.

I store Diesel, Kero, 2 stroke mixture and hi test gas. For all that I have 14+ cans, of various shapes, caps and colors.

Need fuel for my tractor grab a Diesel can and other than the strength need to pour when full all goes well. Kero have a couple older tanks and did mods to the new spouts required to make the cans work. Thanks (large well know farm type store) for necessary fixes!

Two stroke mixture for my many tools and toys I make up 5 gallons at a time from my 5 gallon old plastic gas cans. Pour some into a smaller can for use with small gas powered chainsaws/ weed eaters/ and leaf blowers.

High test None E type gas is best for storage, and I have 6 cans with a bunch of different spouts and some have "make work" fixes to the pouring spouts. I keep that for my portable generator, lawn mower and available to mix for my 2 stroke stuff and just in case as we are rural, emergency gas supply for the vechicles, including a ATV.

Al items have the necessary additives to prolong life and as time goes on they are swapped out in rotation.

As there are a bit of flammable liquids with all this storage, they are in a old garage about a 100'' from the house! Also have at least 1 barbecue size propane tank there. Nothing like doing a good grilling and running out of propane!:D

Blitz went out of business a few years back, unfortunately.

Hillbilly77 that is freakin' brilliant!!! Never thought of that!
Lee I'm now debating whether or not to re-drill with the 1/2 inch bit. The 3/8's produces a pretty good flow. Maybe I'll go with 7/16's :D
This forum is better than watching Red Green-a bunch of old farts with great engineering minds. We have GOT to pass this knowledge along to our kids :D

The Blitz gas can company in Miami, Oklahoma had been in business for over 30 years, controlled 70% of the gas can market in the U.S., and employed 117 people. They had 42 lawsuits filed on them and paid out over 20 million dollars in legal fees and settlements which put them out of business a few years ago. Many of the lawsuits involved someone who was drunk and poured gas on a campfire or outdoor grill or they were smoking and clowning around or doing something else stupid while pouring gasoline.
