Please Pray for the people in Seiver county and east Tn. The worst wildfires in memory for this part of the country. The fires are right up to the edge of town. Some places like ober Gatlinburg are gone,a 16 story hotel is on fire approximately 100 structures are involved or gone.So sad my parents took me to Gatlinburg the first time almost 60yrs ago.My wife and I got married in a small church outside Sevierville .Hope it is still there. Also please pray for all the first responders who are there doing their jobs in a difficult situation.

The Gatlinburg Fire Chief just had a press conference and said they were fighting a forest fire last night when the wind speed suddenly doubled to in excess of 87MPH, sending burning embers throughout this drought stricken area.

Throughout this drought and resulting fires, we've been blessed with relatively calm winds. How ironic that the first precipitation in months is preceded by devastating wind. I hope that the return of heavier rain tonight will tamp down this inferno.

All the supportive service agencies have expressed need for stuff, not people. Churches, homeless shelters and all sorts of places are collecting things like personal hygiene items.

Hopefully the necessary federal, state and local government support services will be mustered and help will be arriving shortly... I know Utah has an emergency response team that went to the Twin Towers and has deployed to other disasters as well.

It's amazing just how deadly dangerous Mother Nature is. Even in your own backyard, always be prepared.

A rain front came through middle Tennessee last night and finally reached Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and should have helped. But last report I heard, allot of buildings and hotels were affected. And it will take years for the area to regrow and get back to normal. I LOVE that area. We went just last week. And we have family that live just behind Dollywood. It breaks my heart that this happened!

But there is still a BAD drought situation all across Tennessee. It's been a crazy summer, with brush fires and wells and ponds drying up. Affecting cattle farmers and area businesses. We need rain!

My prayers go out to our Freinds and Family in East Tennessee!

Local FOX19 says there have been calls to FD's, in the tri-state, reporting the strong odor of smoke.

That kinda puts the magnitude of this fire into personal perspective.

The local news is now reporting 3 dead from the fires, a vey sad situation.

We're expecting rain tonight, and the Park Service said arson today. I'm in Anderson County, and at one point we had several thousand acres on fire here.

One of many things I'm glad my parents didn't live to see. They honeymooned in Gatlinburg in 1935, and went back many times over the years (sixty-four plus) of their marriage.

I spent a lot of summer time as a kid visiting an aunt and uncle outside Sevierville. My roots are in that part of the country, and it's very dear to me.

Prayers on the way.

I was in Pigeon Forge Wed-Saturday of last week. We could see smoke over the mountains, but it was not terrible. I'm astounded at how bad it's become since we left the area Saturday morning.

I haven't been to Gatlinburg proper in years, although I am a frequent visitor to Sevier county. I feel terrible for the people there as even when the fires do finally die down, many folks will find themselves without the livelihood they spent years building. The entire economy depends on tourist traffic.

Fort McMurray here in Alberta was ravaged by wild fire this summer. 80,000 evacuated, no fire related deaths and $3.6 BILLION loss. Our thoughts are with all those in Tenn.

My folks lived in Sevierville.....

My folks lived in Sevierville for many years. I'm really glad that they aren't up there now and I'm going to hate it if I go up that way again and see everything burned up.:(:(:(

Like others I've been going to the Smokies and surrounds for 62 years. I was in diapers the first time I went. As a family we never went anywhere else for vacation. My folks tried one time but due to extremely hot weather we ended up back in the mountains much to our delight. I've never been to Disney or any other 'theme' park for vacation except maybe a day or two spent in Carowinds.

Anyway, I'm very sorry for both the forests and the people there. I'd like to burn arsonists at the stake.
