While reading a "gas station" book of Colorado history, a statement was made that the gun fighter Luke Short lived in a town named Buena Vista, Colorado. His name appears on the census roll in this town in the year 1880. I have some friends that live in this town. Does anyone know if I sign up for one of the ancestry sites, if the census report would give the street address? It would be interesting to know his address to see if I know the person that lives there and if the house still exists.

Maybe. It will probably show the address that he gave.
You won't know for sure until you actually look at the census.
You shouldn't have to pay money to see the census records.
Do you have a genealogy library close by?
We got a public library one and a LDS one here in Albuquerque.

That census page says "Main Street", and a note that I can't read well, but it appears to say "houses are not numbered".

The number 106 is the sequential family number as the census taker went door to door. It was the 48th dwelling. It looks like he was a liquor store clerk, living in the home of the owner, Mr. Murphy. The next door was C. Ashley.

I'll have a look at a different site, because there is something not quite right about the paging. It may be because of the site or the actual record.

Thank to everyone for the assistance. Have not found actual street address yet. I think it would be great to inform the current owner of his residences about their famous previous resident. I also have a weird character flaw that makes me want to stand on the actual spot where history was made and famous people have stood. In the locally famous Jackson Hotel in the burg of Poncha Springs, CO. you can look in the entryway mirror and be looking at the same mirror in the same spot that Doc Holiday, Jesse James and Teddy Roosevelt looked into.

The LDS church (Mormon) has a web site that you can use for free to check genealogy records. I've found it to be quite useful. I've seen pics of census records from the mid 20's through the mid 40's and they do not show house numbers. Just google LDS genealogy and you can find the site.
