I just received a 4 inch 617, I'm a happy old man. I don't much care for the sights. I'm thinking maybe a nice scope , or a good red dot would be better? I'm pretty much 617 ignorant. I have had a 6 inch for a couple of years that is going to need attention as well. What seems to be the mount of choice for these ? Experience and advice is what I seek! Thanks for all advice.

Allchin Mount on my 617 with a C-More Railway. He also makes a mount if you want to use a smaller reflex like the Vortex Venom.

I'm using the Weigand "WEIG-A-TINNY" mini scope mount and the ADE Advanced Optics RD3 because they are both smaller packages.

You don't need a big mount since your shooting .22 ammo, which is why I like the Weigand mount.

With the RD3 available in different dot size and dot color configurations. I'm happy with it.

I had a 617 for a while, and the first thing I did was purchase & install a fiber optic front sight. Made a heck of a difference to my old eyes. It got swapped off when a 28 ND was offered as trade however. I would like to find a pre-lock 617 when (if) prices ever settle down.

The sight install was pretty simple really.

Have a 617-1 with Raptor mount and Vortex Venom. Also a 617-5 with an Allchin also with a Vortex Venom. Prefer the Raptor mount but they were no longer available.

Really enjoy the 617 pair! The -5 with the "evil lock" and MIM is one of my best shooting rimfire handguns.

I used an Allchin mount to put a Bushnell $100 rds on my 327 MP8.

I've used an ancient Aimpoint 1000 (!) on a Ruger .22 pistol for decades but for $100 I figured the Bushnell would let me figure out if I like rds for revolvers--in short, I do! The Bushnell has worked out well enough that if I buy another rds it'll be another Bushnell (this is strictly a range toy, however).
