I had a friend that had been a Green Beret in the early 60's. They trained him to the concepts of these suits, and left the materials up to him for effectiveness and availability. I saw the last one he made (circa 2000) and it was based on a 1/2 inch grid fish net, that was a cape about 5+ feet wide and 7 or 8 feet long. The fibers were burlap threads about 10" long. This all anchored to a baseball cap that was of a complimentary color. Clothing worn under the cape was camo and very light, as in gauze or mosquito netting, for summer use and heavier for cooler weather. There was also a matching 1' by 12' "boa" that was wrapped around a gun or in later years a camera tri-pod, as he photographed insurance cheats! (while sitting in a folding chair, sometimes much less than 100 yards from their house!)
His group served in Vietnam and the training was focused on the tropics, although he shared some info on cold weather combat also.
