Wow, I've never heard of a dog lasting that long, so you must have been doing something right. I like it more when they give you a clear cut sign that it's time without you having to waffle around undecided.

Oldest dog thought to be Bluey at 29yrs and 5 months.

I would agree and say your dog is part border collie and part heeler. At least he sure looks that way to me. He looks like a typical smooth-coat border collie. The head shows a little more heeler. The markings are spot-on typical border collie.

I've had border collies, kelpies, and currently have a dog that is ¾ border collie and ¼ heeler. She weighs 30 pounds. She's marked very similar to your dog...even down to the "ticking" on the front paws, only she's a rough coat instead of a smooth coat.

I doubt if your dog will get much bigger. They're usually full grown at 9 months of age. Sure, the literature says the maximum weight of border collies is 45 pounds, but you have to remember...that's just a generalization. You'll get some that weigh a little more.

Bottom line...enjoy him. From my experience with stock dogs (got my first border collie when I was eleven), he'll make a great, devoted companion...no matter what size.

Yep that's the same as our Blue Heeler and her Mom is a Red. Imo, that dog is NOT a Heeler, it's mostly something else and certainly not Border Collie.

Hmmmm....I dunno. I think I'm going to have to disagree with that one. I'm pretty darn sure that dog is a heeler/border collie cross. I've seen too many of them to think otherwise. Many folks think a border collie is only a long-haired (rough coat) dog because that's all they see on television. I've had both rough-coat and smooth-coat border collies. No difference in intelligence....just difference in hair length. A lot of ranchers tend to prefer the smooth-coat border collie because they're easier to maintain.

To the OP, if you Google "smooth-coat border collie pictures" and "border collie/heeler cross pictures," you'll see literally dozens of pictures of dogs that look like they could be your dog's litter mates.

All of our border collies and our border collie/heeler cross have been working dogs. And like I said previously, you will have a super, devoted, loving companion...no matter what the size.

Our rescue dog looks very similar to yours; we were told he was a blue heeler mix also, but didn't look like any heeler I had ever seen. So we had a DNA test done. Turns out 1 parent was a mismash of Dachshund, Spitz, Affenpinscher & other breeds too numerous to mention. The other parent was 1/2 Kelpie & 1/2 Dalmation.

It could be a short-haired Australian Shepard. My son had one that looked almost exactly like that pic. She had one blue eye and one brown one. And like yours, one total bundle of energy.

The ACD x BC mixes I've seen look very much like your dogs. One was adopted when the lady was preggers and I've been fortunate enough to watch on Facebook as the son grew up with Buddy as his besty. Yes... devoted & loving... even with their cat, which sported markings very similar to Buddy's!

OMG that dog is ADORABLE! Love the Bentley mark! That says "Cattle Dog" to me right there.

FWIW Kelpie & Dalmation were breeds used developing the Australian Cattle Dog.

My little guy went blind from glaucoma at around 8-ish. He was still hell on wheels but very friendly. He'll be 12 this year.

This was before he went blind. He is of the stocky little tank variety. 40 pounds of muscle.
