Good afternoon
Just looking for some information on a new gun.
I’m more of a revolver guy
My son came down the other night and asked if I wanted this
M&P compact in 40 with a box of ammunition and an el passo saddelry holster with more ammo to come
I remember when he got into these guns back around 2012 or so now he’s into building AR’s and wants a metal 9 mm from the PC
I’m just curious if these guns had any type of issues and that’s why they make the 2.0 now
Are there any fans of this older style gun
I appreciate any info you guys could share
Sorry for the rotational issues
Thanks

Great guns, excellent shooters. No real issues with the 1.0 guns, especially the sub-compacts. I believe there were some frame flex issues to the larger framed guns with lights/lasers attached.

I reckon a lot on these boards could do with a decent photo editing program and some instruction. :) Those damned orientation codes that phones put on pictures are a curse.

I have found a way to get around that. It's a crazy idea, so you'll have to open your mind a little. I actually use a camera to take pictures. Shocking, I know. But, crazy as it is, it does work.:D:D:D

You are preaching to the head chorister on that point.:D

I use a camera for all my pics and also only post from my PC, I use my phone to make calls...old fashioned I know, but my stuff goes through and is oriented correctly!:D

Can't speak to the .40 specifically but I have one in 9mm (along with a Full and Shield, all 1.0s)

First, to add to (hopefully reduce) the confusion, the Compact in the 1.0 series is equivalent to the Subcompact 2.0 in size, and mag capacity. So when someone posts about the 2.0 compact, they have a model that holds 13 rounds of .40S&W (15 9mm). It may have a 3.6" or 4" barrel. The 2.0 Subcompact holds only 10 (12 9mm).

There were complaints about the 1.0s in general (not specific to the .40 models) that the triggers were gritty, with lot's of creep, and hardly any noticeable reset. There were a number of changes to the trigger bar, slide lock, sear and other components to improve it. The trigger set from Apex Tactical was a popular upgrade. The trigger mechanism in the 2.0 is different. (Apex and others are still popular).

There was also a "feature" referred to as "auto forward" (or auto drop) where if the slide was locked back, and you rammed a loaded mag in with great authority, the slide would release and load the chamber. I wrote "feature" like this as it was not designed this way but some folks liked it, others not so much. So the slide lock in the 2.0 is retained by a detent, and the frame has the "extended" chassis to stiffen it up.

The 2.0 models do offer other "improvements" such as front serrations, and grippier texture. Many of the newer 2.0 (maybe 2.1?) ditched the hinged trigger for the "blade" style. Personally, I'm not a fan of the hinge but still have them on my M&Ps.

Otherwise I feel they are still solid shooters.

Here's thread from a year ago that attempts to list the rolling changes through the 1.0 years. If yours was purchased in 2012, you likely have most of them (the one that apply to .40) already.

Is there a resource for the revisions M&P 1.0s went through BEFORE the 2.0 redesign?

So you have mags and ammo, so go shoot it and report back. :)

I veered hard to port when I looked at them.

I use my iphone to take pics but always edit (resize, crop, rotate) before posting them. Generally, I transfer to my PC, then edit so I can keep the original and well as the modified pics in case I want to post them to other forums.

I have a 1.0 M&P 40 compact purchased new in 2014. I put 13,000 .40 cal. rounds through it, then converted it to .357 SIG with a Storm Lake drop-in conversion barrel. I have put an additional 3,000 rounds of .357 SIGs through it. It's been a very reliable gun, and is quite accurate at any self-defense distance. My only problem with it came around 10,000 rounds when it developed some failures to fire. S&W took it back, and completely rebuilt it, replacing every moving part except the extractor (it's never had a failure to extract) at no cost. It required a new recoil spring assembly at 12,000 rounds, and in the 4,000 rounds since, it hasn't had a single malfunction. I trust it enough that it is my everyday carry. Enjoy your new 40c, it's a fine gun.

The frame flex issues with mounted lights were on Glocks, not M&Ps. My "nightstand gun" is a full-size M&P40 1.0 with a Streamlight TLR-1 mounted on it. When I take it to the range I shoot it with the light mounted and masking tape over the lens to keep the crud off. I typically go through 50-100 rounds in a session and I have yet to have an issue.

I also have the 9mm version of the M&P Shield 1.0 - because CA didn’t have the 2.0 on the approved roster at the time. I did find the trigger not-so-nice as mentioned above - so I installed the Apex trigger (and Talon Grips) and haven’t looked back. Well over a thousand rounds and it shots and feeds great every time. I trust it as an EDC.

I had this same pistol back in the day. Was 100% reliable and carried better than the equivalent Glock 27.

But I had one issue with it, which was first shot divergence. First round was always unpredictably way out of the group at all distances out to 50 yards. Didn't matter how I loaded it, that first round went wild. Groups fired when the pistol loaded semi-automatically were consistent. This is usual a barrel lock-up issue in a pistol. I had several other M&P pistols at the time in 9mm and .40 and none had this tendency.

After returning it to S&W for repair, they replaced the barrel, but the pistol continued to do to fire the first round erratically. I ended up selling it, and the whole episode soured me on the M&P series generally.

Hey I’m a huge fan of .40s&w but I have found carrying one for 16 years as a cop that the 180gr bullets are not the best performers for the .40S&w round. If you want the best performance out of the .40 S&W do yourself a favor and shoot 165gr. Or 155gr. You will get a little more speed and better energy performance from the round.
