First off, I do like whiskeys and keep some
Jack and Basil Hayden around.

But my preferred drink on the rocks, with and
without a dash of dry vermouth, is gin. Specifically
it's Beefeater and Tanqueray for me. And Gordon's
is a great mixer.

Many other gins are preferred by others including the
new American made Aviation but for me it's too
much of a licorice taste.

Any other gin lovers here first and foremost with other
spirits following?

Naturally if not on the rocks, it's shaken, not stirred.

As a young person in the summer we drank gin and grapefruit juice, or bitter lemon.

Way back in time when I was a teenager I drank a pint of Gin straight out of the bottle. In a short amount of time.
I don't ever recall any other time I got that sick from drinking. And I have gotten that drunk, or more so, many times. I have never been able to drink Gin since.
Luckily I finally grew out of my drinking days without any serious accidents or getting any DUIs! I guess somebody upstairs was looking out for me.

First of all, it's London Dry Gin.

“Only flavoring substances or flavoring preparations or both shall be used for the production of gin so that the taste is predominantly that of juniper.”

People are trying to morph gin with "other natural botanicals." If you can't taste the juniper, it ain't gin.

'HENDRICK’S NEPTUNIA GIN adds another wave of flavour with an enticing chorus of deeply refreshing coastal botanicals and combines a smooth, bright citrus finish with a deliciously distant sea breeze.'

Cirrusly?

'Hendricks Scotish Gin infused with cucumber and rose.'

Good grief !!!

A few years ago, I did a broad taste test of gin brands. I settled on Beefeater.

I liked Bombay Sapphire, until I tried it vs Tanqueray. BS was weak sauce.

Recently, my LGS (local gin store), ran out of Beefeater, so I bought a bottle of my long time favorite Tanqueray. I could taste no difference between the two. And Beefeater is 5 bucks a liter cheaper.

Taste test reaffirmed.

Tanqueray is like a budget airline, attractive idea until it takes you places you don't want to go. Joe

Agree. Had an 'experience' with T&T's while in college that rendered me unable to even smell gin for about 30 years. I can now responsibly enjoy one or two, but all things considered, I learned my lesson well.

Gin and Fresca sounds good. If you can still find Fresca. A gin and tonic is a refreshing drink in warm weather by the pool or in the boat. That gives me about a 3 month window to drink it here in WNY. Other 9 months are for bourbon.

I haven't had any for years. Sixty or so years ago, my best friend's parents kept a bottle in the basement and we mixed it with orange pop. It still tastes like pine cones to me.

Gamecock,

The taste and cost are oddities among gin.

Beefeater is the best, I think, yet is so much
cheaper than so many others. Tanqueray remains
a favorite too but its initial taste to me is not
as nice as Beefeater. Nice but not as nice.

I had a similar experience but with Ouzo.
I like black licorice but after a weekend drinking Ouzo a wiff of black jellybeans made me gag.
I’m better now.

All through college I was a Gin & Tonic drinker or sometimes straight up over ice and it was always Gordons. Occasionally I got an urge for Jim Beam and Coke but primarily Gin. After getting into LE, it didn't take many years of dealing with drunks and seeing what it did to their lives/families to realize I had seen enough. With there also being an addiction history in my family, I gave it up completely. I haven't had any alcoholic beverages in over 30+ years. As Clint said, "A man's got to know his limitations".
