Always wanted a Hi-Power but prices have gotten a little crazy.

Couldn't pass this up as an inexpensive shooter, with an ambi safety to boot...

Let us know how it handles and shoots. I have a 1962 Argentine Police Hi Power, mfg. in the Argentine facility and love it. But it is just too important to me to carry every day and I am looking at the Girsan offerings. Thank you.

I have handled the Girsan and the Springfield and they are both pretty darn good, especially at that price point. i own a custom BHP and an Austrian Police FN. A gunsmith friend/gun shop owner said that he thinks the Girsan is in some respects better than the Springfield. I think both would be good as starters for a nice custom build.

I have yet to see any negative articles or comments on the Girsan P35. I've read articles on the Springfield Hi Power where they experienced malfunctions when they first came out. Hopefully, they have addressed the issues and corrected them by now. The Girsan is a well built firearm, as are other models from Turkey.

I was lucky to stumble across a Hi Power a couple years ago at a decent price for then.

Since I have added a P35 PI from Girsan and have not been disappointed.

I will be a second or third voice on the Girsans. They seem to be a quality shooter-type pistol at a reasonable price point.

Been a fan of the Grand Puissant for years - somewhat from nostalgia, somewhat from being an enjoyable gun to shoot. I have a FN SFS High Power and a customized FN Aluminum Frame (by the much missed master smith Karl Sokol). Both are enjoyable shooters - with the aluminum frame trimming enough weight to make carrying easier/more comfortable.

Recently purchased a Girsan MCP35 PI Ops - which is the shortened slide, dual recoil spring Detective style HP variant. It also comes with no mag safety and an upgraded trigger. To date, the Girsan is a pleasure to shoot, with a better trigger than my Sokol-tuned pistol. The stock Girsan ambi safety is almost as good as the Sokol custom safety too. That is high praise - Girsan put together a nice pistol that has features that would have cost you $2000+ just a few years ago.

Initially I thought the Cerakote coating was cheap looking. Still a bit smooth over a true parkerized slide, but the Cerakote is really growing on me. At the price point, I am not going to cry if the Cerakote gets dinged or shows wear, but it appears more durable than I expected.

I handled a Girsan 1911 a couple weeks ago and was really impressed. I sold an Argintine HP a couple years ago and am now thinking twice about that sale. Really tempted to get a Girsan.

I'm seriously considering one of the Girsan P35 HP clones.
I already own an old FEG HP clone, which is of Hungarian manufacture.
Based on the reviews I've read about the quality of Turkish guns, I'm really interested in the Girsan.
For those of us who live in states with 10-round magazine restrictions, does anyone know if they can be ordered and purchased with a neutered 10-round mag?

I've handled and shot a few rounds through a PI Ops as mentioned above in post #6.

Nicely done metalwork, not a great fan of the Cerakote, crisp but heavy-ish trigger and a stout hammer mainspring with a small checkered hammer surface makes pulling it back a bit of a challenge. Accurate and functioned 100%.

I have the version with a beavertail, adjustable rear sight, flat trigger and no magazine safety. No optic cut (yay) and no dust cover rail (happy dance). I like it very much. As murphydog mentioned, I'n not a fan of cerakote but I can certainly live with it.

A picture is worth a thousand words - we like pictures! ;)

I have owned a few BHPs over the years. I purchased a Girsan P35 Match. Uhm, it shoots better than my custom BHP... Accurate, loves 147 grn rounds and puts them where I send em. Dare I say the workman ship is on par or even better my BHPs? Yes, I said it. The cerakote is just fine with me. Between dry fire and actual shooting the trigger has smoothed out nicely. Love the thing!

You're such an enabler! I want one and you're making me want one even more!

I found one of the SA35's at the local gunshow several months ago, and bought it out from under someone who could not make up his mind. He walked back up as I was handing over the cash and muttered something about "Saving some money this way." in a tone that reeked of sour grapes. I cheerily told him I was glad I could help. I also have a couple more Hi Powers. One from the late '40s that has been there and done that. Another, which was the first I bought, and is a early Browning badged example.

Ya' snooze ya' loose - or so the old saying goes... :D
I never knew that Browning had a St. Louis connection - until I examined the rollmarks in the photos you posted.
Being a St. Louis native, that is a pretty cool historical touch-point for me.
Thanks for posting.

Haha, get the Match model. Nothing like it has been made as a production Hi Power. The beaver tail, under cut trigger guard, trigger and lip on the bottom of the grip are straight out of a custom BHP build. Not to mention the great G10 OEM grips. A plus is the rear adjustable sight with fiber optic front sight. Its a lot for the money.

Glad you got your hands on one OP. They are great guns for the money. I was hesitant when they first came out but was pleasantly surprised.

I'd be curious to know how you compare the Girsan to your other Hi Power. I've read that the trigger on the P 35 is terrible, that is not helped by the magazine disconnect, and I don't believe it will handle Plus P loads. Hollow points would do, if they feed reliably, since I would carry it, and there are no dependable gunsmiths around here to tune it up.

"A picture is worth a thousand words - we like pictures!"

Your wish is my command; here it's pictured with its Browning forefather. This Browning has had its magazine disconnect removed, and it did improve the trigger pull. :) On another forum some have noted that the fiber optic rod in the Girsan sometimes likes to jump ship, so I very lightly brushed some clear nail polish in stragegic spots there. So far so good. You can see there's a little lip of metal at the bottom of the Girsan's front strap; I have large hands, and love that.

Looking through the catalogs/inventories of several of the large distributors, it does not appear that ordering one in with a 10 round mag is an option at this point.
