So, I'm going to buy another gun. Current stable is a Mod 68-1, M&P 22, M&P 9, plus long guns. I've had other S&W 9s before as well.

I'm looking at the 40c or a Kimber Super Carry Pro. My heart says Kimber (for EDC). My checkbook says 40c.

Why should I not buy the Kimber. That is, other than saving $700-$800

I've had plenty of 1911s in the past am very familiar with their issues. As with M&P issues.

I frequently carry a Kimber Carry, alloy frame, 4" barrel, stainless slide. Carries well, shoots very well. Cost around $800. Mine is a .45, but I believe it is also offered in 9mm. Very nice gun if you like the 1911 platform.

Kimber makes a very nice gun, at a very high price. I have a friend that has a Kimber and it is a joy to shoot. However, it is his only gun. If you are looking for a reliable gun to carry as a CCW both the Kimber and S&W will work great. The main thing is that the gun goes "bang" when you pull the trigger. If you want more bang for your buck go Smith. If you want more buck for your bang go Kimber. Hold both, shoot both and decide for yourself. Both are great.

I have held and shot both. I like both. I own two M&Ps. Might be time for another 1911.

In the last few years Kimber has had a lot of QC issues. I've heard that their customer service is mediocre. If you want a 1911, there are several other companies I'd recommend before Kimber.

If you want a short barrel gun, less than 4", get one that was designed that way. This is why I say the M&P is the better choice this time.

Save money and add to the M&P stable. Most will use the same holster (s). Same thing with same caliber mags if you add full size mags to se with compacts.

I really like the M&P line. Have 2 9's, a 15-22 and a 15x. But really, you have to go with your heart over your wallet,- even if that means more time till your new gun. I'd rather have an empty wallet than an empty heart.

I personally don't have any experience with the kimbrr but the 40c is a very versatile price, you could get a full size mag w/ x-grip or a 9mm conversion barrel & use your mags, or even hunt down a 357 barrel.

Not only do you save money but that money can go towards more mags and ammo! Besides that. ....what Rastoff said, Kimber QC has gone downhill. I don't own one but just about every forum there are more complaints about Kimber than any other 1911

So, thanks for the input. I have scratched the Super Carry Pro off the list. Will most likely pick up the 40c as I don't need another FS M&P and will set aside the leftover scratch for a different round butt commander sized 1911. Sig fastback, Ed Brown, S&W e series will get some research done on them.

...Ed Brown,...will get some research done...
Be careful. If you handle an Ed Brown it will start to leach into your system. If you shoot one you won't be able to sleep until you have one.

This is my favorite handgun without exception:

It's an Ed Brown Kobra Carry. They're not cheap, but worth every penny and then some.
