Boy, I sure am glad that I don't live in Chicago. Particularly Cook County. We sold a vehicle to the dealer's owner. In addition to the 9% sales tax, there is a 17% tax on each lease payment made. That's 26% on tax on a lease. Good thing CCW is coming to Illionois. Perhaps people will be able to protect themselves from unarmed robbery!

That is just one of the main reasons I left Chicago and moved to Indiana. It got too expensive to live there with taxes and prices such as parking.

The state, county and/or city need the taxes in order to provide a continued high quality of services to their residents. At least that is the usual excuse for high local taxes.

The rest of the people of IL would just like Chicago to go away. Yes, we finally got a CCW law this week, but with the ISP being given 6 months to get set up to accept applications, and every instructor needing to be approved by the ISP, and the application process taking a minimum of 90 days, and the application requiring 16 hours of training, it will be 2015 before the first permit is probably issued. There have already been a half dozen "amendments" proposed to the law. I'm not holding my breath, I just use my FL permit when I cross the river into MO and feel a lot better.

When I worked in Batavia (Western suburb) I made friends one man told me his city/county property tax was $5500/year. I had, at that time, a 2700 square foot home on an acre with six garages and my taxes were between $1600-1700/year. For that extra I would expect a daily foot rub.
