Glock doesn't have a takedown lever other than dry fire accident. Not me

Aren't you suppose to rack the slide back and stick your finger in that barrel thingy to make sure it is NOT loaded. My kids knew how to safely dissemble a G19 when they were 14. What is it that the country comedians say "You cann't fix stupid"

Cracks me up how people blame a mechanical object and/or it's design for their lack of judgement.

A momentary lapse in judgement while driving could get you or someone else killed. A momentary lapse in judgement while crossing the street could get you killed. A momentary lapse while carving your Thanksgiving turkey could get bloody.

The point is we can all have a momentary lapse in judgement from time to time. The key is to realize this and force yourself to focus and clear your mind when doing things potentially dangerous such as driving or handling a gun.

As has been said a hundred times, what happens between the ears is more important and it is what we should blame for such a lapse in judgment.

A dry fire regimen should be a program with rules. Rules to prevent and protect from that momentary lapse in judgement.

Unload the gun. Put the ammo in another room. When you're finished with your dry fire practice, load the gun and PUT IT AWAY! If you are interrupted during your dry fire practice, your dry fire practice IS OVER! DO NOT RESUME!! Clear the gun again, load it, and put it AWAY!

Lapses in judgement are caused by over confidence, stubbornness, lack of attention, etc etc....... Realize this and conduct yourself accordingly.;)

Ya can't cure stupid, ...

Had the barrel been pointed at his chest (or even more in line with the arteries in his forearm) at the time, he would possibly have cured HIS stupid.

Clear that safety rules weren't followed, as abundantly mentioned.

I for one am still not in favor of the "front push" slide operation - - even though it is widely taught (the people who taught the safety cert. course I took insisted that it was a superior method) it has always struck me as a blatant violation of the rule against pointing the muzzle anywhere but a safe direction. Especially at a crowded range where there are others to your left and right.

Looks to me like this is in part the result of using that method; that hole is right where his hand would have been had he been using the front-operation grip.

Working from the rear of the slide might not have prevented the discharge (he still had to pull the trigger) but his hand wouldn't have been where it was.

Nothing to do with the gun. EVERYTHING to do with a special kind of stupid.

Awhile back there was thread on calguns very similar but the guy put a .45ACP JHP through his femur.

If you think that is a design flaw you should look at how many modern and milsurp rifles operate. It still fries my circuits that many gun designs, old and new, do not allow you to put the safety on until the weapon is cocked.
I recanted my "design flaw" comment. Even so, I fail to see how the safety being on or off is of any concern. If the gun, an AR for example, is not cocked, it won't fire.

Now in S&W theater:

Smithsrevenge presents:

How to take down a Glock, THE RIGHT WAY.

Smithsrevenge will be portrayed by himself, apologies for the bad acting in advance.

Smiths: How do I take down a Glock!?

Smiths self: Simple my dear friend smiths!

Smiths self: Great question by the way!. Here's how!

1. Remove magazine.
2. Pull slide to the rear to eject chamber round.
3. Pull slide to the rear 3 more times to confirm that chamber round is out.

4. Visually inspect chamber for round. If clear proceed to step 5.
5. Return slide to forward position.
6. Point weapon in extremely safe direction, Down is an excellent choice! :-D. Make sure to avoid human beings and pets while doing this kids! :-)
7. Pull trigger to release firing pin and block.
8. With your right hand, pull the slide back about 1/4 of an inch.
9. With your left thumb and forefinger, depress both take-down notches on the sides of the frame.
10. Pull the slide towards the front of the gun, it should just come right off!.

Smiths: OH WOW! THANKS.

Smiths self: You're welcome smiths revenge, Oh.....and remember, the best safety you can have is not on a gun, but at the top of your neck. Inside your head, its called your brain.

Thank you very much for viewing this nights episode of : Smithsrevenge Presents, Seen only in the S&W Theater :-D

Nope. Cleaning a Glock. Racked the slide, dropped the mag, pointed at his leg, pulled the trigger. (You see what he did there?)

He got his sequence of events a bit mixed up and then ignored Rules 1 & 2.

oh holy Patagonia!

Always and I mean ALWAYS REMOVE THE MAG FIRST! FOR GODS SAKE!.

Believe it or not, i've heard 9-10 of this exact happening in the past few years , you think people would catch on.

999 out of 1000 he woulda probably said the same thing. He just brain farted. I find the unbelievable part to be pointing the gun at himself & pulling the trigger.

Now, I've brain farted & had an unexpected one in the pipe or a loaded mag in the gun a couple times. Non issue if you follow all four rules, ALL of the time.

Im a Glock armorer. I've done that same motion tens of thousands of times. I've never once muzzled myself. Strange how people find the exact number of actions to make a very opposite reaction.
