Good Day From Boston
This is my first thread on this forum and I AM SURE this has already been spoke about. I am a die hard Glock Fan, Die hard. Recently shot (and liked) the M&P Fullsize 45acp. Who here has made the switch to the M&P? likes dis likes? I would consider buying the M&P 45acp with the four inch. My only hang up is mag capacity (10+1) but thats why we carry spares mag's. So if anyone has any input I would appreciate it.

MP 45 FS

I have owned both the FS and C 45 MP. I traded the c and wish I still
had it. My FS is great . It shoots any of my reloads and carry ammo.
Recoil is light IMO. Thinking of adding a FO front sight. Good luck
Mine is the 4.5".

This may or may not be a fair comparison but I sold by Glock 17 for a M&P9 Pro and am very satisfied with my decision. I like the way the back strap feels & interchanges better and how the trigger on the Pro pulls MUCH better. I have had an M&P 45c for quite some time with the Apex trigger and I added the mag-grip extention and really like it for a carry gun around my farm. Good luck in your decision and I am interested to see the responces to this thread also....

I have shot a Glock-17 and 36 for some time. I also shoot a S&W99, M&P9Pro and a recently purchased M&P45. While both the Glock's and S&W M&P's are equally reliable I prefer the ergonomics and trigger of the S&W's. An added bonus of the S&W M&P's is that you can shoot lead bullets without purchasing an after market barrel.
My recently purchased full size M&P45 has functioned flawlessly with everything from 185 gr. LSWC's to 230 gr. JHP's and puts them in a nice tight 1 1/4 to 2 inch ten shot group at 50 ft (of a rest of course).

I was also a die hard Glock shooter for more than 20 years. Bought my first, a 17, when dealers almost couldn't give them away and the nuts all thought they would beat an airport metal detector. Anyway, when I first fired an M&P, I really liked its handling charactics over a Glock of similar size. I now own a full size 45 and am still happy with it. Compared to a Glock 21or SF version, its more concealable and fits my hand much better. It also points better (Glocks do point a bit hit for me). So far, this pistol has been as reliable as a Glock. I'm guessing that its a little more complicated than a Glock, but I haven't had any formal armoror training for the M&P, and hesitate to take my guns apart beyond field stripping if I don't know what I'm doing. It all boils down to a matter of preference; what feels better to you, and what is most comforting to you in your holster. I'm not necessarily a capacity freak, so the smaller mag capacity of the M&P 45 doesn't bother me. I'm a won-over M&P fan, but you can't go wrong with either.

Some purists cuss about a Glock's plastic recoil spring guide rod, but I've never seen one break. The one problem I've had with a Glock that really put the gun down for the count was when the slide lock spring broke during a range session. With no slide lock, the slide will come off. I haven't seen that as a worry with the Smith.

For two years, all my department would allow us to carry was a Glock 22 (40 cal). I now have a choice and chose the M&P 40 FS hands down. Glocks are great, but my M&P is comfortable and just as durable, accurate and more concealable. A lot of departments are making the switch from Glock to M&P-to me that says a lot. (my .02)

I bought my M&P Pro 4.25" in October and sold my last Glock a few months later.

Both are quality guns. However, the Glock 21 has a better capacity and would be my choice between the two.

And by the way, welcome and glad to have you on the forum.

Thanks,
Ya, thats my only hang up is the mag capacity. but thanks for the info

I carry a Glock 27 as my CC gun. I also own a 21sf that I use for SD/HD. I recently bought a M&P 40 pro even though I really wanted a Glock 35. I was talked into the M&P because it was in stock & the 5" barrel was almost as long as the G35. I really like the feel of the M&P & it seems to be as reliable as my Glocks so far. I have purchased a 357sig & a 9mm barrel for it. The conversions seem to work just as well in the M&P guns as they do in my Glocks.

Short answer: I like both.

Being up in Massachusetts, Magazine Capacity is a non issue, since Mass Law only allows 10 round Magazines. Also, Check and Make sure which ever gun you want is on the Mass approved gun list.

I purchased the M&P 45 4" about a month ago. In making my decision, I also looked closely at the Glock 21 and Springfield XD 45. I was focused on the capacity as well but ended up changing my mind in the end. After handling all three, my decision came down to which one felt the best to hold and shoot. The Glock and Springfield have a more rectangular grip and did not feel as good as the M&P's oval grip. I have put 500 rounds through my M&P, and have had zero problems with any combination of Winchester, Remington and Federal ammunition. I purchased the M&P for home defense and am very satisfied I made the right decision. Hope this helps!

Why choose? Just buy them both and go on with life. I mean it's what, $400 for a new M&P? $400 during your lifetime probably isn't going to make any difference at all. I can spend more than that during a night on the town. Take the family to a college football game, that's well over $400!

Hi,
I guess it's not a matter of choosing as I already have seven
(7) Glocks. And it's not ever a question of Money (although 5 boys do eat me out of house and home) I was just looking for some Intel on the M&P from shooters who own one. So far I have heard nothing but good things from M&P. So i think i just may pick one up.
thanks

I have several Glocks and a Springfield XDm as well. (for starters) To be honest, each has it's strengths, but in terms of what feels best in my hand, the M&P wins hand down overall. The XDm is a bit more accurate, while the Glocks strike me as more a bit more likely to survive being run over by a cement truck. In this bunch, I like the M&P's trigger as much as the other two, if not more.

I guess what says it all though, is if I was heading out the door right now, in the cold, dark rain and heading by car into the city, the gun I'd grab is my M&P 40c. It fits my hand best--like a glove, is lighter, conceals comfortably and with TFO night sights, I know I could draw it very quickly and confidently if necessary and have only have one thought in my mind--shoot or not?

i bought the 21 - didnt like it and sold it.
i bought the XD - didnt like it and sold it.
i bought the M&P - love it and would never sale it.

My first polymer gun was a Glock 17. Before anybody strokes out this is just personal preference here ...nothing more. I realize that Glock has a huge following....including my son who depends on one everyday. I acknowledge the reliability/dependability of a Glock. That being said....my son hates it when I call them Blocks.:p

I hated the trigger...the grip and just about everything else. I traded the 17 for a lawnmower and never looked back. It's also why it was my last polymer pistola for years. Then one day I got to shoot my friends M&P 9MM and eureka...it was love at first shot. I have a 9MM Pro Series with the 4 1/2" barrel for carry....a VTAC and just picked up a 9MM Pro Series 5" barrel the other day. My carry gun has be through the Apex machine and it's a fine shooter....never has had one problem nor has the VTAC.

I shoot my son's Glocks every time we go to the range together and have never regretted trading mine;)

I had a Glock recoil spring guide break. The tip broke off my 40 caliber when I field stripped the pistol. That is when I learned to carry an extra.

On a choice between the Glock 45 and the M&P I will take the M&P. The gen 3 Glock chews up my hand between the thumb and forefinger. I own both of them and shoot both.
