Going down that road again!

rubiranch, my first round was in my left lung, 3 months time I had a tumor in the upper quadrant the size of a goose egg. Dr. surgically removed it along with the whole lung. Thought I would only lose half but not to be. This also destroyed my left vocal chord.
What concerns me now is that I went through chemo and radiation treatments with absolutely no problems, I'm hoping I can do that again.
So I've been 6 years free so it goes,,,we start over again

I wish you well on your follow up

If it helps, this time my prayers will be added to the many that I feel sure will be forthcoming from other members. God be with you and your doctors.

Loknload, I had my first cancer operation in 1991, on my 38th birthday. I had a large tumor wrapped around and penetrating my right vocal cord, and eventually my doctor had to remove the posterior part of the right vocal cord and blend what was left with the surrounding tissue.

Women tell me I have a sexy voice, and I joke that my operatic singing career was ruined...but I get out of bed every morning, look upward, and say thank you. I had my annual checkup last week, and my doctor and I were discussing how many laryngeal cancer patients are still alive 30 years after diagnosis...not many!

You never know what is going to happen. Keep the faith, work with your doctors, and know that all of us here are pulling for you. Good luck and may God bless you... :)

loknload, I'm sorry to hear your news.
On the plus side, it sounds like your med team is really diligent, the way they wouldn't just blow off your discomfort, and they caught this thing early. My urologist was likewise really diligent, insisting on biopsy after biopsy (not much fun, and NO dignity) until he found my prostate cancer. It was an aggressive cancer, but caught very early and localized, and I'm still clean 11 years after surgery. I wish you the same good fortune this time around, and I'll pray for your full recovery. Hang in there!

hsguy,,,
loknload praying for a successful treatment! Us old fire guys sure seem to have issues with cancer, sadly.
hsguy,,,yes we do!

Beemer, The first bout destroyed my left vocal cord, have had Botox injection to bring it closer to my right side for better speaking and swallowing.
After this I ask my ENT about the future of this and future treatment and first thing he said was well your singing career is gone? :D

Old Fireman don't die, They just smolder away at the Fire Museum!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, just playing it by ear right now as to what the next move will be. After my first bout with this and the doctors I have I pretty well assured we will be going down the right path!

as a 3 time cancer survivor, one of which was in my right lung...
I send you prayers for a great outcome... we can remember back to the fear of the unknown the first time you heard the dreaded words "you have cancer"... we don't have that anymore... we have experience on our side and know that "thing" can be beat...
stay strong, you have this...

Just found your post. Really feel for you. Have had to many rounds of cancer in my family. Negative results were with family members whose cancer was found late. Thank God your cancer has not spread all over the place. God bless you through surgery, treatment and recovery. Sincerely. bruce.

I wish you well on your follow up

Thank you. MRI and ct-scans came back clean.

They were injecting a modified herpes cold sore virus directly into 3 advanced stage IV metastatic melanoma tumors on one of my ears. After 5 injections I told them I wanted to take a break for a while. My doctor visits are about a 400 mile round trip and I've done that drive over 80 times over the years.

I stopped the injections back in April and my immune system continues to kill the cancer. Two of the three tumors are now gone and the third one, which was the largest is still going away.

They have "energized' my immune system via infusions of immunatheropies and it now literally kills the cancer once it recognizes it. They trigger my immune system by injecting a virus into the tumor. I was a pioneer in immunatheropy treatments.

Its amazing how far cancer treatments have come in a very short time.

We scheduled my next followup in four months.

Good luck with your treatment.

Here's hoping for a positive outcome for you. Stories like yours are what make most of us older guys afraid to go to the Doc.

rubiranch,,,,glad to hear this and I hope you stay on the mend. That is really great news.
Still waiting for results and treatment start. They talk of using this new MRI radiation machine on this. Only 3 in the nation and we got one. Brand new equipment.
Taking it day to day...;)
