Going rate for pre-29 in box?

The 44 Magnum looks to be in great shape while the case is fair. I would value the package at $5000-$5,500.

Bill,

Unless I'm mistaken...Isn't that Revolver in an Early Slide-Latch Pres. Case?? If so...Even though the Exterior isn't pristine...Wouldn't it be worth a bit more than you noted?? Not doubting what you noted...Just curious!!

Nice gun, looks original to me.
To give you a frame of reference, in Dec, 2014, I won Lee Jarrett's Auction and I paid $3,250 for the best Model 29 no-dash with all the fixings that I have ever seen - still to this day. At the time, it was a lot of money, but, the gun is really special, and Lee's reputation/contribution to our hobby and this forum is huge. In 2014, it was probably $250 to $500 more than the top Model 29s were going for. I have not shot it, and I just keep it in the safe and show it off to my buddies. I am sure it is worth more now... Here are a few pics:

Good job! Like the others, I think this was a good deal... not a steal, but certainly worth the money; For comparison, I have a 4-screw
Pre-Model 29, not quite as nice as yours made in early 1957, that I paid $2500 for some years ago. Supica's 4th Edition (I don't have the 5th Edition yet) shows 5-screw Pre-Model 29s at up to 5 grand in ANIB condition, so you 'done good!'

Well, I went ahead and bought it, I will send an email requesting the serial number.

silicosys4,

Good for you...Money well invested for certain!! I also believe...With a little TLC...The Exterior of the Pres. Case will clean up considerably!!

Also...Even though I'm pretty certain it is...Please post a few Photos of the Case when it arrives to verify my assumption the Case is an Early Slide-Latch Pres. Case...Appreciate it!!

The presentation case is the slide or button latch variety that was used from January-September 1956. It should be numbered to the revolver on the bottom in white grease pencil.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for verifying what I had suspected...Appreciate it!! I also wasn't certain you'd taken notice to that & is the main reason why I asked if the Price Range you quoted took that into account!!

Heck even those early diamond stocks are worth big money by themselves...unless there is a hidden flaw that emerges later, I think he got a real winner!

Those are great looking grips. Especially the right side. Very nice. Congrats on a great buy.

Unless I am missing something that is a great price. Every local gun shop I visit is priced at least $1000 over max price. Same with older Colt snake guns. I have a 4 screw and a 5 screw in the original box that I had to beat up the price. I paid $4,100 each. The 5 screw has a tiny scratch above the trigger guard. Otherwise both are mint in unfired condition and this was three years ago. You can take it from there. The problem is condition. If there is the slighted wear it takes it down a notch in price.
