Good Bourbon For A Present...And the pick was??? #77

If he's a history buff or agriculturist, you might try Jimmy Red Bourbon. It's from the SC low country and made from rescued/rare red corn. Comes in just under $100 for a regular bottle and just over for the collectible crockware bottle. It wasn't anywhere near the best I've had, but I'll buy it again.

Eagle Rare is the 10 year old Buffalo Trace. I would be happy with a gift of either. Raining here tonight in SW Va. and my treat earlier this evening was Buffalo Trace after a nice day of trout fishing. Makers Mark if I can't get the other two.

I use to work at the Stitzel-Weller distillery in Louisville, Pappy's distillery. Pappys is a Wheated Bourbon and if your friend likes Wheated bourbon then IMO you can't beat One of the Wellar products. I still have 5 bottles left from my days at the distillery back in the late 80s early 90s. Nothing better than a Wheated bourbon from that distillery.

It isn't bourbon but, Tennessee whiskey. I would suggest a bottle of George Dickel Bottled in Bond.

Yes, I am prejudiced. I don't know why since I only live 5 miles from the distillery.

Lucky you. The stuff I buy in their store always tends to be better than the stuff I buy at the store here. By the way the first batch of Bottled in Bond is better than their second batch. Reviews tend to back that up.

I have found a new one to try. Jefferson's Ocean. It seems to have a saltwater taste and is smooth. a list of others.

Anything from Woodford Reserve.
Blantons.
Eagle Rare.
Buffalo Trace.
Been to both of the lower list Distillery's and did there tours. Had a special tour of the Buffalo Trace Distillery. And did two tours of Woodford Reserve. Outstanding.

Good luck with your choice and also let us know what you decided on.

Jefferson's Ocean! How did I leave that one out? Excellent, and a neat story. Supposedly, the barreled bourbon is loaded into an ocean going vessel and makes a voyage. The motion of the voyage enhances the aging and flavor. This would be my choice.

Try Bird Dog...

Stumbled onto Bird Dog a couple of years ago and it is excellent. They produce it in three different versions with the least expensive coming in around $25, my personal favorite, and it is smooth beyond words.

Just finished a bottle of Buffalo Trace, also enjoy Bullet, Larcony and Woodford Reserve.

My current favorite, and is on my buy whenever I find it list, is Henry McKenna Bottle in Bond Single Barrel 10 year old. It might be one of the best bourbons under $100. I suspect it will go the way of Pappy and become unobtainium at list price.
