Good Bourbon For A Present...And the pick was??? #77

I agree that Jim Beam Black is surprisingly good. But for a gift meant to impress, the Jim Beam name probably doesn't rate. However it is an excellent everyday bourbon that is actually superior to most of the supposed gourmet labels. It doesn't even really resemble their white label version. I always have a bottle of the Jim Beam Black on hand and that's usually the bottle I hit.

I have given away $150 bottles of scotch because I don't like scotch. I'm not much into trying to impress people with dollar values when actual taste is so more important.

I know its called a rum but, Flor de Cana 18 year is close to a bourbon more so than a typical rum. And you can get two bottles for less than $100.
FYI the wife and I drink the 7 year

My personal favorite is Garrison Brothers made in Hye, Texas. A little tricky to find outside of Texas but the distribution is improving.

+1 for Garrison Brothers. Makers even sent them a cease and desist for allowing wax to drip down.

Four Roses is one of the most underrated bourbons out there. I have not tried their Single Barrel Reserve, but if it is much better than their regular stuff I probably best leave it alone as that might develop into an expensive habit lol.

So we ended up with Angles Envy, Blade and Bow, Woodford Reserve and Buffalo Trace. We are going to wrap all of them and let him pick ONE..........not sure what to do with the remaining 3 but I have a couple of ideas!

It's Woodford Reserve unless you fell for a cheap knock-off :). But excellent choices and a nice spread.

Can't spell and no it was not a CHEAP knockoff. Partaking of this every night would certainly get pricey. Is it Christmas yet???

Nicely done! Love the thought of picking one, the Angel's Envy is an easy tell even when wrapped, as well as the Woodford perhaps. Have not heard or seen the Blade & Bow so can't speak to that one. God bless and Merry Christmas!

Nice solution, you'll have to let us know which one is chosen. I know I'd go with the Woodford. I'm not much of a drinker, but that stuff is very good...

So we let them choose 2 from the four bottles offered. And the winning selection was
Angels Envy and Blade and Bow! We also got to take a little sip of the two. Good stuff. We now get to take the loosers home, Four Roses and Woodford Reserve here we come!

My 2¢ worth.

If you really want to impress him, send him a few of 'Ben Franklins', and let him name his own poison.

The sole purpose of any Booze, is to give one that warm, relaxed feeling, produced by alcohol in it's many drinkable forms.

This questionable indulgence, is justified by many of us, by proclaiming to be connoisseurs of those many types of booze, when in fact after a couple of swallows of the booze, it's job is done and the so called connoisseurs don't know if they are drinking bathtub gin, or vodka.

If the Connoisseurs think that they are judging the truly high grade bourbons, they've been sadly fooled. The truly high grade bourbons are never sold in the USA, but are sold to Japan, and other countries, willing to pay the extreme high prices required to purchase the very best bourbons available.
