I went back to Cabelas today to follow up on a 29-5, maybe 90%+, that was listed at $399 on Friday. Of course it was gone. But the salesman said that they have a hold policy--Cabelas will hold a gun for you for 5 days while you think it over. No deposit or comittment. If someone told me that on Friday I would have held it. Maybe next time...

thats great, BUT what if you walked in to buy , found the perfect gun at a great price and they told you they are holding it for someome and then to find out it was held with No deposit or comittment to buy from them.? when I find what I want and its a good price, I want to buy it..

The guns on hold are not left in the case, they're in the back.

So, if you saw something in the case, you'd be more than welcome to buy it.

Perhaps you could ask them to put your name and phone number on it as a definite buy to call you after the 5 days if it hasn't been purchased. It never hurts to ask. The worse they could do is say no. Then just check back on day number five.

I work part time at a Gander Mountain. They have a complimentary 7-day hold period. The guns on hold are placed in the vault, out of customer sight. I have had customers come in, ask about a gun they spotted on an earlier trip, that is no longer in the display case. If the gun is on hold for another customer, I am very willing to accept a 'second hold' on the gun, in case the first customer does not return. About one-half of the hold guns are not picked up, but I think the policy is a good one for the store, because it accomodates the customer, who needs a little decision time. We just restock the guns that are not picked up.

If you walk in to a cabelas store, do they buy firearms? Dumb question, I know but the store in CT has a policy of check your gun in at the desk. They don't seem to friendly (here) about guns coming in the front door.

Cabelas Buying Firearms

The local Cabelas has a front desk check in for firearms. After check in a person will walk you up to the firearms department or Gun Library where a person will make you an offer. I think this is store policy.

I found the East Hartford, CT Cabelas to be very polite and professional when I have taken guns there to sell, and I found them to offer good money when I had something they wanted.

You do need to check in at the front desk. They will check to make sure your gun isn't loaded and carry it up to the gun department for you.

You can also try Newington Gun Exchange or Hoffman's Gun Center. They are both big knowledgeable gun stores only a few minutes from Cabelas
