Hello again all,
So I'm in a jam. I need a good paddle holster for my sister-in-laws wedding. We are having it at a private place and they are allowing all of us that have our CCW to carry. The only thing is I will be in a tux and I don't want to spend the $$ on a shoulder rig. Once the reception starts and the bar opens all of us will put the pieces up in our cars, but we need to wear them for pictures and the ceremony.
So that leaves me uncertain of what paddle to go with. I want something i'm going to use again and I am not wanting to go the fobus route. So really, all I can find is either a Blackhawk or else a leather one that will cost a little bit more.
I think I want to go kydex soo...any suggestions?? Thanks, sorry for the long post.

I have had the galco speed paddle holster for a jframe and hated the thing, it wouldn't stay on to save MY life. However my Blackhawk paddle holds VERY securely to both my pants and my gun. if you want paddle I vote blackhawk

No carbon fiber for the sigma. In fact I didn't see the matte finish for the sigma either.

I was told the SW40V will fit in the same holster as a MP .40. If so, it will give me more options.
As for not carrying IWB, I just don't like the way it looks with a shirt tucked in. Plus my IWB clips on using the belt as extra retention, so in Tux pants with no belt, it would move ALOT.
Thanks for the answers, I'm starting to lean towards blackhawk,

fobus. teh best for the price...simple, effective design. 1 piece construction = less **** to break. Trust me, you wont regret it.

I sold my Fobus on ebay a week after I got it, the retention was way too much, sometimes the whole holster would come out instead of just the pistol! I have an RSR Defense for an M&P but it did require a bit of fitting in the trigger guard area, so I will vote for the Blackhawk too...

If you want the very best paddle holster on the market today and cost is of no importance...the Kramer MSP is the most comfortable and highest quality on the market today. I have, and use 4 of them with my herd.

I just ordered a Forbus HK1 and I'll let you know what I think when it arrives. I'm not sure how well they adjust, but from what I understand a little localized heat should solve any fit/retention issues with the gun.

If the holster seems too "tight", try wiping down the inside with some Armor-All on a rag. Then wipe it dry. You will notice a big difference.
I think the Fobus is the best deal when you consider the price and the UNCONDITIONAL lifetime warranty.

My Fobus HK1 paddle holster that I ordered arrived today. I like it. It is lightweight and easier to put on and take off than a belt holster. My SW9VE fits it like a glove and is very comfortable to wear. The retention is not as tight as some plastic holsters I’ve tried, but I like that. It is easy to draw and reholster without fighting the holster. This may be an older model as some of the ones I’ve seen online hold the gun straight up and down. This one holds the gun at a forward cant which I also like. The only negative comment I can make is the end of my gun barrel sticks out of the holster at the bottom about a ¼”. I would prefer the material cover the barrel end to help keep dust and debris from possible getting into the open barrel if I was working outside. The other thing is because it is such a close form fit to the gun, it is pretty obvious that it is a gun under my shirt when the shirt is pulled tight against my body for any reason.

I agree. This is my favorite. Skip the roto one. They stick out more and are a little flimsy because of the extra connection. I have both

First, a couple of questions:

1) "...and they are allowing all of us that have our CCW to carry. " What's that all about? Remember what that first "C" stands for!

2) "Once the reception starts and the bar opens all of us will put the pieces up in our cars, but we need to wear them for pictures and the ceremony." Are you expecting old boyfriends to disrupt the festivities? If I were going to wear the handgun at the wedding, I certainly would not remove it but would rather eliminate my trips to the bar (It's surprising how nicely a champagne glass of ginger ale works as a social crutch).

Now, on to your questions. You don't say what type of handgun you are intending to carry so I can only speak in generalities. I often wear a tux and I am also faced with the questions that you have. Remember that the tux has no belt, only suspenders, and the cumberbund is pretty thin so a waist holster, even a pancake, will be an "iffy" solution. Are you going to put the holster and gun between the pants and the cumberbund? If so, it will be a pretty risky draw not to catch fabric in you grip or on the gun. If, on the other hand, you put the holster over the cumberbund it will force the cumberbund down and be pretty uncomfortable.

In the old days when the Walther PP models were about the only thin solution, I carried a PPK/S in a soft shoulder holster (AKA "Bond, James Bond"). Now that there are several smaller and lighter .380's available, I usually carry a Kahr or a Ruger in a small pocket holster. One of the Uncle Mike's is inexpensive and works well in the thin fabric of a Tux. The smaller caliber firearms are my last choice but you have to evaluate your risk. Weddings are usually pretty low risk events,(unless you are anticipating the aforementioned old boyfriends) or unless they involve very high profile individuals in which case the principals usually provide their own security.

Bob,

Thanks for the questions.
First off, the ceremony and reception is being held on private property and so they have the right to ask us not to bring them. Even though most of us CC on a daily basis, my sister-in-law felt it nessicary to get the permission of the owner before taking pictures with us wearing them.
Also, I understand the whole "eliminate the trips to the bar" but I've got a 9month old at home and the times my wife and I get to "go out" together are few and far between so when we get a chance, we like to enjoy a drink or two together.

Also with the tux we are wearing, we will be wearing vest so it makes it a little bit eaiser to use a nice paddle holster. I will be carrying my SW40ve and I think I've decided on a Blackhawk Level 2 Serpa Concealment. I tried one on and really like it, plus my sister-in-law's fiance works at a local gun store and gets a good deal on them.

Thanks everyone for the excellent ideas.

rmholsters.com "Extreme Cant Paddle" holster is by far the best I've found, and he does make it for the Sigma 9/40. You didn't say how quickly you need it. His lead time is 4-6 weeks, but he might be able to put you a the top of the list if you call and explain your situation to him.

Mike,

I understand a little better now. As is often the case, there are a lot of factors which impact our decisions.

With the vest, I think the Blackhawk should work nicely. Remember to do as much practice with the new dress style as possible. If it is a rental tux and you have limited access to it, that may be something to consider.

Hope it is a beautiful and memorable event.

Just wanted to let everyone know I went with the Blackhawk Serpa Level II Concealment paddle holster.
I LOVE IT! I got a nice discount on it because I have been hired in as a reserve officer in my county and also need it for duty use.
It has a great retention even when not wearing a belt and it is very very comfortable.
If anyone is looking for a nice paddle holster for the .40ve. I would definantly check out a blackhawk.
