In the opinion of any Winchester Pre-64 guys know if this looks like a " Gopher Special " Pre 64 M70 in 243 Win.
It is 98% condition, looks unfired / unhandled. Value?
Leonard

It's got the right stock I think (MC), caliber (243,270, or 30-06) and is a FW.

Gopher Shooters Supply rifles were a Winchester Custom Shop order in '59. It took a year or so to build them for the company.
But Winchester then offered the same spec rifle in the next year or year after catalog too.
A check of the ser# will narrow it down to see if it in the 1959-'60 era. AFAIK only a Winchester letter showing a special order by Gopher Supply will actually put to rest any dispute as to wether it's one of their special order rifles or a Winchester catalog offering.

With all that, I don't know how much of a premium a collector would put on one. I don't think Gopher's ordered any more than 300 or 400 rifles all together and that's just my recollection and guesstimate.
