S&W is exchanging my 632 (see other posts) that can't be fixed for a 640 Pro. Pretty much had my choice of J frames over the phone with customer service, and picked the 640 Pro because of it being a little "differant" which is why I chose the 632 originally.

Did I make a good choice, or should I call back and get something differant? The 640 is about the only J frame I care for, maybe the 63. They said it would be a while before I got it because they are so backed up.

Great Choice!!
I lust after those 640 Pro models.....

They are extremely hard to find....
there are two on Gun Broker right now.....one for 700 and one for 800 dollars....

If I didn't just over pay for my 66-4 and have Gemini Customs working on another revolver for me........I'd have one.

Can't wait to see pics and report.

Good choice?

Good choice????

It's at the top of my list and I'm buying one the minute I find one.

Please post pics when you get it please.

What do you think?

I swapped the grips with a pair of ahrends boot grips. I carry this in a galco concealable belt holster. It's a GREAT choice you made.

Wonder if they have problems with bad crowns and canted barrels like some other models?

Man, don't let that keep you up at night! :p

Get one, inspect it. 90% chance that all checks out just fine.
If not, send it back to S&W, be patient, get it back to 100%, shoot it, carry it, show us pics!

I have it's sibling, the 632 Pro, and love it - except for the Tritium 'Night Sight'. I would love the HiViz sight, a la my 3" 63, more. BTW, if they have a 3" 63 - and you don't - I'd consider getting it - mine is a real range-bag hog - fun plinker! The 640 Pro would be nice - but all business.

What was wrong with your 632?

Stainz

Timing issues. I guess they don't have extra parts to fix them, so be carefull with your 632.

What makes a 640 Pro different from just a plain 640? I bought my 640 several years ago and for me, despite the weight and heft of the stainless steel, shooting 357 mag is too unpleasant. I consider it an excellent carry gun, despite its 23 ounce weight, and load it with Speer 38+p.

640 is an awesome choice. I find that 110 grain 357 not bad at all. Looking to try some Speer Gold Dot 135 grain ammo.Carry mine in a IWB Don Hume holster.

The Pro has night sights and the cylinder is cut for moon clips.

When I get one, I'll probably have S&W do the master action package on it.

I tried to look up the 640 Pro on the S&W website and did not see anything listed at all. Night sights would be nice, since the basic 640 has essentially no sights at all. I added the Crimson Trace laser grips which gives me the confidence to hit what I aim at if I am more than a few feet from the target.

Did you get a great gun? Yes.

Did you make a good choice? That depends on your intended use...

If you're looking for a superb concealed carry revolver, I think you made the best choice there is.

I consider the 640 Pro to be exactly that: Made for the professional! It's got the sights, the trigger, the moonclip, and the grip. Everything I always wanted in a J Frame. I retired from Police work 10 years ago but I purchased my 640 Pro a year ago March.

This gun is accurate, powerful and great to carry summer or winter. My only regret is why it to took them so long to build a J Frame that would do so much "well" from the factory!

I got one of the first ones out of the factory as a replacement for a defective 640 no dash. IMO it's the nicest J frame out there.

I sent my old 640 in and then waited two years (more or less) for the 640 Pro as a replacement gun and I could have gotten pretty much any J frame from S&W in the interim. (As you may know, they announced the gun two years before they began to ship it.) All I can say is that it was worth the wait, for the sights alone.

Here you go.

I only found out about it recently.

Who would not like a new S&W J frame with night sights and no lock?

And I assure you it does not have the lock.

Product: Model 640
