GOT IT PiX in post 11--.38/44 Nickel at LGS

Nice "Model 333" Chuck. I think you did great on a super cool gun with a storied provenance. I also like factory refinishes and believe they provide excellent value in a collection. I consider them "touched twice" by the good people at S&W.

I am late to the party, my hands have been full baby sitting 2 grandson's.

Excellent find chud, I am still asking and searching for the records for these, I feel certain that one day they will appear.

"Would original grips just be the magnas with diamonds?"
Yes, but in 1952, the correct Magnas would likely have been of the "sharp shoulder" style rather than the rounded shoulders you have. I am not sure exactly when the Magna sharp shoulders stopped on N frames, I think around 1953. I have a 1954 4" HD with round-shoulder diamond Magnas like yours, which are SNed to the gun, therefore original. You didn't give the SN of the grips on yours. Sharp shoulder N-frame Magna grips, especially in good shape, are somewhat difficult to locate, and will be costly if you want a pair (assuming they are period-correct). I don't think I would bother looking too hard.

Thanks DWalt once again,
I didn't even bother looking at "these" grips because i knew
from first glance they were replacements.
I believe i am going to talk to Patrick Grasshorn about making
me a set of stags for this gun since the originals are long gone
by now.

chud, out of the 249 HD's that Austin PD ordered, there were 2 that were reported to have 6 1/2" barrels, rack numbers 6 and 25.

Another "WOW" is in order Larry.

Since they had the long barrels did these go to
the Swat team ?? :D:D:eek::eek:

Outstanding !! Thanks for sharing.

Chuck
