I had an original before I went into the service...All black, 283 engine, that blue and black interior, changed out the grill for a tubular bar grill.

Married my first wife when I had that one..(must have been because of the "Duck Tail" hair cut I wore at that time.:D

While I was gone, let my sister have use of it...Got home, the front over the head lights was rusted thru..pretty common on that car....

Would I ever love to have a original again...IN BLACK..Natch.

A unique one year complete restyle, and that was it.
Never took off like the three years prior, kind of a wallflower model.

Probably true Ralph, being a one year style...but look at the prices of them now.

To me, one of the down falls was that two piece drive shaft with that center bearing...I had a hello of a time keeping one in.

Had a dark blue Impala convert with a 348 and powerglide when I was in my last year of HS. Great car until a buddy (former buddy) borrowed it and ran it through the porch and into the living room of a house. It was still running so he backed out and tried driving away but couldn't see where he was going because the headlights were shining up into the trees. Copious amounts of alcohol was the primary cause of this sad tale. Wasn't worth fixing, it was just a 10 year old used car.

My Dad bought one new in 58 in the same color but his was a hardtop. 348, tripower, 3 speed. Traded in his 270HP 57 Belair for it. I came home from the hospital in it when I was born and maybe the sound of him going through the gears with the steel pack mufflers he ran on it had an influence on me being a gear head later on.
He always said it was his favorite car out of all he owned.

with continental kit in baby blue. unfortunately, it's a little small to drive. lee

Lee, I took a look again....I'm guessing that it's rust free by looking at the rear lic plate on it.:D What does the odometer read? Was it a one owner?

It's a keeper for sure.:)

Bro in law and I went to Duffys in Cedar Rapids IA several years ago. He had a row of decked out 58's, one had a chrome tissue holder and record player.

That's a dandy, Lee.

I drove a '58 Belair two-door hardtop in high school. White over turquoise. Prettiest car I ever owned. A buddy offered to trade his '58 Impala straight across: black, lowsy paint brush paint job, 348 that didn't run. Uh, NO!

I subsequently owned a '58 Biscayne and a '58 Delray. Prettiest car Chevy ever made.

Friend of mine in High School had an older brother who had one but lost his license. Herb and I used to cruise around in it. 348, tri power, convertible, white and light blue. Beautiful car.

I had the hardtop in white & brown and I had a 53 BelAir in white & robin egg blue. Both were great cars.

I love 1958 GM cars, especially the Chevrolet, as well as the Buick - with the huge grille with hundreds of individual chrome squares. But for some reason, I never cared for fender skirts and Continental kits. Perhaps I am just odd, but I love the look of 50s cars that do not have those parts.

The coolest thing about the 1958 Chevy was how restrained it was compared to other makes or even later models. Put a 1958 Impala next to a 1959 Impala, and you will see just how conservative the '58 looks.
