Very pleased with these. Haven't fired them yet but very happy with the look and feel. A big improvement aesthetically over the Hogues, although I do like the feel of those for shooting. Anyhow, I took kind of a chance on this wood, stain & finish because I couldn't find any pics of someone with same in other grip threads. Black/Silver Stain on Tiger Maple with Tung Oil finish.

You made a good choice. The Ahrends Retro Targets are probably the most comfortable grips under heavy recoil. The round-to-square version gives better control of the substantial torque exerted firing .44 Magnum rounds, and the heavy barrel. The wood is very attractive. What kind is it?

Very nice! That's a great look on stainless. I'm a big fan of Ahrends too! Especially how they fit my hand. They seem to work well for those of us who don't have large hands.

Very nice, I didnt know they gave you that many options on what finish you'd like? Do they run under $100?
They went just over a hundo. But I think that's about as pricey as you can get from Ahrends. As for the size of them, my hands are definitely on the large side. I can palm a basketball, barely. They don't feel 'small' to me yet, but we'll see after a range session. I was advised that the retro targets have the biggest 'feel' of the Ahrends product line. If they start to feel small to me I guess I'll try a pair of Kuracs which come in different sizes and I have read will really fill a big hand. Don't have limitless resources though and hoping these work out fine for me.

Strikingly attractive.

I'm usually not a fan of the black and silver treatment, but it looks especially nice on the tiger maple. Well done.

Bob

Thank you. I was hoping for a look that was unique without being garrish, classy and mean at the same time. Retro & nouveau. I got what I wanted! That doesn't always happen.

Thank you for sharing--I now know what's going on my 629-5.

Ha ha! Why not? They look good! I was just about to pull the trigger on a set in Cocobolo, but they ran out of that wood. Kind of glad.

Nice job !
I'm sure glad you explained the wood and color. I couldn't figure out what wood that was.
I order my Ahrend grips unfinished , a little color and Tung Oil and they look gorgeous . Love they way they fit my hand too.
Your black tiger maple are stunning.

Those look great, especially against stainless. Nice!

Thanks again all, and for posting stuff that turned me on to Ahrends in the first place. Which I would not have discovered. Probably not a look for everybody, but it floats my boat on stainless. Prob wouldn't match up well at all on blued.

Well you just changed my opinion on the black/silver finish grips. I couldn't picture that color stain on a ss gun but that looks wicked. I just went on fleabay to see what gripseller had. Zip. :( Looks great Harry.

Thanks man, and you, the local king of the smith .44 mag. High praise indeed. Incidentally, Terri (Gripseller on eBay) was instrumental in getting me those. I ordered through her instead of direct through Ahrend. Even though the only Black/Silver she had in stock to show were some 1911's. I can't speak more highly of doing business with her. If I hadn't liked the final product, she wasn't going to 'make' me purchase them.
