Got my repaired M&P 15-22 back from S&W

How did you guys pack yours. Did you just put the shipping label on the original box? I think I have a larger box I can fit the original into so the exterior box doesn't say "hey this is a gun."

I'll remove my flip sights and optic, but I also changed the stock and grip, should I bother changing them back? Will the factory care warranty-wise?

The instructions I got from S&W to ship mine was to use a plain box on the outside. And ship without a magazine. So that is what I did. I returned my 15-22 to OE appearance before shipping. I did leave the flash hider that I had installed by a gunsmith on the gun. No problems with the mod from S&W.

Is there anyway you can take a pic and post it of the current position of your ejector? I have looked at mine since the S&W repair, and it is slightly in a different position than before sending to S&W.

MY M&P 15-22 BROKE

i have had the same problem as you all and took my gun back to the shop i baught it from and they shiped it back for me. it has been a month since i have seen it.. makes me upset.. and i was also using remington bras plated hollow point ammo in it. i had ran like 600 rounds through it using winchester ammo, and it was fine. then i used remington, and herd a loud Bang. the bullet never got spit out. and the back of the bullet was split in half. and the extractor was broke.. it was a sweet shooting lill gun. i hop i get some extra clips out of the deal.. specially since its been a month..well i hope im shooting soon.. just figure i would let u all no. and im glad im not the only one.. :(

Score another for the Remington Golden Bullets.

Sounds like another Out Of Battery incident. When this happens the cartridge exploding outside of the barrel takes out the extractor. I do wish S&W would sell replacement parts for this rifle so they could be repaired at the range or locally. Most other .22 mfgs. sell replacement parts that can be on hand for situations such as an OOB. OOBs are not unusual with .22 semi autos. Can happen in larger calibers also.

A month is way too long for repairs, unless you are on the West Coast (two weeks for back & forth shipping). Call S&W customer service and they will look up the repair for you.

Beck and all having had their rifles returned from S&W.

Were you originally having the round stand straight up and stuck in the magazine (and bent)? If so, does that still happen infrequently, or has that been 100% remedied? Are you using the original mag?

Yes, I have had that issue. Before and after the return. Happened maybe two or three times in the 700 or so rounds I have shot since the repair. (My repair was for extractor issues)

I have several magazines, and it has not been isolated (yet) to one or certain magazines. (When I have an issue like this, I put a piece of masking tape on the bottom of the magazine, to see if other issues occur with the marked mag.) I pass it off as a possible loader error when the magazine was loaded. It could also be a slightly out of spec cartridge, maybe one that had it loaded properly from the magazine not have chambered all the way and an OOB might occur. Just some rambling thoughts.

Bottom line, I am not dwelling on this.....yet.

Thanks. I went through a Fed Value Pack yesterday and had about the same number. Like you, I'm not handwringing over it, but wondering if S&W was providing new mags that eliminated it. If so, I thought I might let my rifle take a trip north. But if my rifle is functioning about the same as others after inspection, then I figured I'd wait for the 'big bang'...

Yeah, it was jamming on me when i first got it, with bullets standing straight up, bending several bullets. After i got it back, its done it less than 10 times out of 500 or so rounds ive shot, but i blame that on how i loaded the mag.

Thanks for the update. There's gotta be something wrong with the mag lips (too tight or a forming seam snag) not allowing the bullet to lift high enough into the proper position to feed. With rounds in the mag, you can pull down on the thumb assist then let back up and see that the top round often does not fully lift into position. It's Dremmel time!

hay all i got my gun back today and just got done shooting it it went well just one mess up. and it was the way i loaded the clip. i also got 2 extra clips with it as well. S&M did a great job with the fixing it and getting it right back. the shop i took it to was the reason it took so long. i think they for got to ship it and it sat there for a while. so far so good i love the gun. i am running (Blazer 22 long rifle).(40Gr) through it now. 110 rounds ... so far so good :)

Glad you got your gun back and it is shooting well for you. And two free magazines is good too.

I tend to agree, anytime there is another layer (retailer, or whatever) there is always a possibility of them taking their time to return it to the manufacturer.

I haven't tried any Blazer .22s in mine yet. One of these days I'll have to see how that round shoots in my 15-22.

Congrads on getting your 15-22 back Aaron, you'll have alot of fun with it.

Glad to hear you got your rifle back and you are happy with it. I hope you continue to have smooth sailing. Since S & W stands behind their products I am sure you will.

o ya i will deff be having lots of fun with it.. S&W is a great company.. and i will update you all on how it is going with the gun in the near future.. soon as i get a 1000 rounds through it.. :) God bless ya'll ...

I sent my weapon back on Nov 4 and I got it back last night the 12th. Man that was fast and also with two new mags.
What ticks me off is the Fed Ex guy. He left the rifle in front of the door without ringing the door bell. It stated on the front of the package it was to be signed for by an adult.
I'm glad no one took it. Something told me to check the front door about eight thirty last night. I have a security camera at the front door and when I flipped it on ,there was the package.
The rifle is dirty but hopefully it doesn't jam up now.

Congrads on getting your 15-22 back, that was fast indeed!!!! Now, get out there and test it out!!!! Good luck.

Congratulations Cptslick. :D

That was pretty quick alright.

That Fed-X driver really screwed up. What if some extra stupid kid took that rifle and hurt themselves or someone else? You should tell Fed-X before something like that happens.

well every one i just got done shooting 500 rounds through it today. and all went great. only two bullets ended up sideways and jaming. out of 500 thats not bad.. and it was with the same clip. i did mark them. so im not sure if its the way i loaded or if it is the clip. o ya and cptslick i would deff say somthing to fed x dont get the guy in trouble just let them no that they need to pay more attention.. specialy if its a fire arm.. God Bless everyone .. peace out...

Surely Fed-X has already told their drivers not to do that.

I am not saying I want to get anybody in trouble. I don't, in such a case, see how to avoid that though.

I thought about calling but supposing the guy has a family to take care of and he gets fired. On the other hand he should be reprimanded but I don't know what Fed Ex would do to him. I think I will leave it alone. At least my rifle is here.

I would throw him under the bus in a second! Fedex sucks, and they need to know about idiots like that. If the whole country thinks they can do their job half ass, where would we be?.... Oh yea.... we would be where we are right now..... in the crapper.

What about the family of some very young child, who being completely naive concerning firearm safety, swipes that box off someones porch and later shoots himself or someone else, or both?

Besides that, Fed-X being a large corporation within the "new improved" corporatist pseudo socialist Amerika, would be hard pressed to fire even a completely irresponsible idiot like that driver.

He would likely, be warned and told not to let it happen again, or else. Then maybe, just maybe now, the idiot wont later be held indirectly responsible for, some unloaded even potential gun tragedy, for the media to play up to the hurt of all gun owners everywhere.

Well I notified Fed Ex this morning after thinking about this. It is too dangerous for him to continue doing this stuff and not doing his job.
I spent twenty years a Mailman, and things like that would have gotten me fired.

I think its a good idea that you notified Fedex about it, will they do anything about it? Who knows, but you did your part.

Well... to begin with.... the very young child (VYC) would have to get ahold of some .22lr ammo. And that isn't easy these days, even for adults. Then, the VYC would have to study the complex method that many suggest is required to load the 15-22 magazine. And even after all that... the 15-22 would actually have to cycle a round into the chamber without jaming. Since that is quite doubtful, the VYC would have figure out how to clear the round. By then, I'm sure the VYC would get bored and move onto something more fun. :D:D:D

Good on you Cptslick. You did the right thing.

Just like you, I also hate to see anyone loose their job, and yet surely that driver needs to be clued. They will probably warn him and put him/her on probation is all. You may have even saved that driver from serious liability later on.

Thing is, ammo is also routinely left on doorsteps by parcel delivery services, and so even a small child could very easily also get a hold of ammo.

We sure don't want to see FOX News going ballistic, about even the possibility of, mail order guns being left on doorsteps for children to get a hold of. Whether ammo is involved or not is irrelevant. Such a story would only fuel gun control hysteria.

FedEx guy thinks he is doing recipient a favor by leaving item with no signature. Knows that recipient is anxiously awaiting item. Most people don't want to wait all day for delivery to occur. Ends up getting his nads jammed because someone wanted to sign for the package.

UPS actually works a little differently. They give a robo call the day before arrival letting recipient know package coming and signature required. UPS won't say what time delivery will occur, so someone needs to be at delivery location till package arrives. If one has other things to do that day it sometimes is an inconvenience waiting on the delivery.

One thing I will say is he can't deny that he didn't ring the bell because my security camera recorded it all including times which was 6:40 PM. Fed EX told me there was a signature obtained. I told them not from me. Thank God for that security camera. Good investment.
