Got my Sigma back from S & W

Got my Sigma back from the factory for a warranty repair. It was quick turn around time. Haven't fired it yet, but I'm curious:

My problem was I was getting no fires from "light strikes". Primers were dimpled, but didn't fire. They had very little explanation for the repair they did but said "When you cleaned it, you didn't put back the striker bushing." They included a round white nylon cylinder, which I presume is an extra striker bushing. (I've never seen one before.) I also presume that putting in a new striker bushing was the extent of their repairs.

Question: could I have inadvertantly removed the striker bushing by only field stripping the gun? Because I've never disassembled it any farther than that. (I want to make sure I don't lose that part again.) I don't ever remember seeing that part.

If they took the gun apart and found no striker bushing, and I didn't remove it, could it have come from the factory without one installed AND worked flawlessly for the first 250 rounds? I'm just asking because I don't know.

If I DID in fact lose that part while field stripping it (removing slide, barrel and spring from frame), I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Thanks for any input.

Well, I went ahead and googled images "Sigma striker bushing" and it is in fact the extra part they sent, and I did NOT, in fact, disassemble the gun far enough to remove that part. I didn't even know how. After the gun broke I was wondering how I could take it apart so I could see the striker. If they didn't find a bushing when they took the gun apart, then it was never in there to begin with.

It just seems strange to me that my Sigma would've worked flawlessly for 250 rounds without it. It seems like a much more critical part than that.

Oh well....

Sure sounds like they left it off at the factory- don't know enough about that part to figure out how it could fire 250 times without a problem. I had my SD repaired but it wasn't anything internal like that, seems manufacturers would provide an explanation when they return it. Somebody told me Ruger would but you have to request it.

It is possible that Production omitted the bushing, and somehow managed to function for 250 rounds, and that Repair can't believe that's possible.

However, I'm glad that you got it repaired and hope this ends your problems.

I'm sorry jtpur, I'm in the stone age when it comes to modern photo technology. The GOOD news is I took the gun out to the range and put 60 rounds through it with no malfunctions. Another 5 or 6 hundred trouble free rounds and I'll consider it for CCW again.

It's a nice feeling when things are fixed .

I guess I also feel good that the malfunction was a missing part, rather than a BROKEN part. Then it's just an error in assembly rather than a design or manufacturing flaw. And I don't have to worry about the replacement part breaking, too.
