Cockroach recipes
A drink:
Scale ingredients to servings
15 ml Kahlua® coffee liqueur
15 ml Drambuie® Scotch whiskey
Pour both ingredients into shot glass and mix. Sing a verse of La Cucaracha, or sing la-la-la-la-laaa lots. Bonus points if you can sing it in Spanish. Continue until you can no longer sing la-la-la-la-laaaaa.
Appetizers:
Take a fresh cockroach; then :
1. Remove & discard the solid wing covering flaps.
2. Slice off the head and arse area.
3. Pull off the legs.
4. Make an incision along the back of what's left & crack it open down the middle, revealing the fleshy insides.
5. Place your opened 'roach under a low grill for two minutes.
6. Artistically present it on a plate (i.e. put a slice of lemon next to it).
7. Yummy! Use a teaspoon and fingers! It looks like a black olive!
Or,
Simmer cockroaches in vinegar. Then boil with butter, farina flour, pepper and salt to make a paste. Spread on buttered bread.
For the main course:
Crispy Cajun Cockroaches
Materials:
4-5 Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches
1 Onion
1 Red Pepper
1 Green Pepper
Salt (1 TBS)
MSG (2 TBS)
Corn Starch (1 TBS)
Cooking Oil (4 TBS)
White Rice (bag)
Steps:
1. Remove and discard the solid wing covering flaps and all legs of the cockroaches.
2. Put the whole cockroach into a pot of boiling oil quickly fry for 15 seconds.
3. Heat up a wok until hot. Add 4 spoons of oil and put all vegetables into it to stir fry for 3 minutes.
4. Put the half fried cockroach in to the wok and add salt, MSG, and corn starch.
Serve on or with a bed of white rice.
