The sheriff's deputy asked for my license, registration and proof of insurance. I handed him my license and permit to conceal carry along with the other papers. He asked if I had a weapon on my person. I said no but I've got one in the glove box. He was very polite and cool. I've read some horror stories where some cops get real uptight. He checked my lights, turn signals and said "have a nice day".

I've never had a negative interaction with a Police Officer.

I think I've only gotten two speeding tickets in my life and rarely get pulled over, but I know I've been given several warnings without getting tickets.

BTW the Oregon Supreme Court ruled many years ago (30?) that check points violated the 4th amendment which I agree with.

I've been at checkpoints twice and given my CC permit both times. One officer didn't say anyting, the other asked "Where is it?" and I replied, "on my right hip." He didn't ask anything more.

Never a problem myself but had a friend of a friend you now how that goes took a pistol from a youg lady during a traffic stop put her in cuffs then let her go but she had to go to the sherrifs office to get it back. She had a CWP and advise the officer she had a pistol like she was suppose to. Funny thing is she and her husband both teach firearms safety and cwp classes. Whish I knew how this turned out she was very upset and talking about getting a lawyer.

I did however go to the car wash today and left my pistol in the console. Thought about it as I was paying and walked over to retrieve it and told the atendent i had a pistol in the console and neede to retreive it. He don't worry about it and yelled across the car wash "Theres a gun in console make sure it stays there!"( a little embarising) I politly told him I was not worried about some one taking it I was more worried about some one shooting themself with it and I would just feel better if I got it out.

Got stopped a few years back. Officer asked for my license so I dug it out of my wallet. What I did NOT realize is that my carry permit had stuck to the rear of my license.

He looked at me and said "Where's your weapon sir?" Could have knocked me over with a feather - I had no idea why he was asking me that. All I could think was "How the hell does he know that I own guns?"

Then he held up my permit and I finally understood. I smiled sheepishly and told him that my firearm was safe at home in my safe.

He wasn't amused and gave me a ticket for doing 51 in a 35 zone. Two other guys blew past me when the cop was flagging me over. When I asked him why he picked me and not the other guys he just said "You were easier to catch."

Guess he was just doing his job and it cost me $140 to learn that lesson. Now whenever I drive down that street I never go above 34. Of course I have to keep to the right to avoid being run over by the other drivers as they flash by.

I was stopped for speeding about 5 yrs ago. I had a nice hard rifle case in my back seat,{it was not full of guns I had my carpenter levels in it} The Police Officer never ask me for my "papers''. He saw the gun case, said unluck the door, took the case over to his car opened it up,walked back over to me,put the case back in my car, said I might want to find a different tool box,and slow down, have a safe day. He then left. I was very happy and a little shocked.

Well I have been through two check points/DWI
stops and both times I was carrying all
officers involved super curtious but careful. Here in NC when plate is run it will come back as ccw holder if you are on the registration always notify officer on approach of the vehicle of being a ccw holder and if carrying or not. (cover the bases)

Guess I've just been bear bait over the years. Back in the late 1970s a local PD was having a burglary problem. They set up a road block and just stopped everyone. They wanted to know who was coming and going at that hour. The first couple of times I was really tired and tried to be polite. About the 3rd time in less than a month the cop came walking up and I said "YOU AGAIN!" He just told me to go home. After that, I did get waved through the thing about a dozen times.

When my son and I had a little Honda Trail 70 I used to take it out exploring. It was a cop magnet. I had my DL, with the motorcycle endorsement, and my registration and insurance card. It still got me pulled over constantly. One time I asked the cop why and he said "9 out of 10 guys on tiny motorcycles don't have their stuff." It was easy prey. If they pull you over for a nonsense reason, its fishing.

5 years ago I got pulled over by where I work. Clearly a case of a KY tag in a nice area. He walked up to my car and asked for my license and registration and insurance information. Then went back to run my numbers. It was taking longer than I thought it should, when suddenly the street was filled with cops. Some with their guns out. He was sort of polite, and had me exit my vehicle. Then with his gun out but not pointing, he ordered me back to his car.

Then he proceeded to take my little work truck apart. I was left with a Sgt. I asked what the hell he was doing. The response "he's looking for your gun." So I responed with "good luck with that, its at home." The patrolman spent about 10 minutes looking, but found nothing of value. I know, with the recent ruling of the SC, once he's got me out he no longer has a reason to search the area under my control.

It didn't matter, he was going to find a gun and make an arrest. He failed. I don't know why he made the original stop, and he left my glove box contents on the floor and seat where he dumped them. He didn't even tell me to have a nice day. Ever since I've wondered when someone shoots a cop, or shoots at one, if it was someone who had pulled a similar stunt.

I thought for sure I was going to get popped last Monday. Construction zone with a speed limit of 60 and a cop pulled into the turn around just as I was approaching. Looked at my GPS and it read 65.4. So, I lift off the trottle and slow it down to 62 and he comes charging up behind me like I was standing still. After about 1/2 mile of having him tailgating me with no lights I said screw it and pulled onto the shoulder. He slowed down next to me and looked me over and then passed me by. So, I pull back into traffic, kept it at 62 and he took the next exit. I suspect that the reason I didn't get popped was my CPL, which is linked to my plates. He was behind me long enough to check and probably saw my CPL and the fact that I had a spotless driving record and just decided to give me a break. One of these days I am going to have to pull the intake manifold and weld a boss on it so I can mount the cruise control, that car will not hold a stable speed between 60 and 65.

BTW, this was on I75 in Michigan, which is a target rich environment to any speed cop. When I slowed for that construction zone, the traffic ahead of me left me well behind. People in this state drive like maniacs.

That's messed up. I've never had a Police Officer here in Oregon bat an eye over me being legally armed.

This is good advice from C.S. if you are in NC. I do the same thing and have never had any problem yet as long as I tell them up front and let them know where it is.

Here in Ms

Mississippi Law Sec. 97-37-1 (2) states "It shall not be a violation of this section for any person over the age of eighteen (18) to carry a firearm or deadly weapon concealed in whole or in part within the confines of his own home or his place of business, or any real property associated with his home or business or within any motor vehicle".

And exactly what was the reasonable cause to stop or detain you? Driving a vehicle on a public road?
Was there a search for a specific person or other affadavit for search?

Hate to say it, but you'd better watch your mailbox for a ticket. In MI you do not have to get pulled over to be cited for vehicle infractions or speeding. And if you do get a mailed ticket, don't be surprised if the appearance date has already passed.
Ask me how I know...

I must have lived a charmed life, reading how many times you all get pulled over etc. I am 68 years old, spent 40 years in southern calif, rode harleys over 200,000 miles, been in every state and maybe been pulled over 3 to 5 times in my life. What gives? I dont drive as slow as I am old either. Off the top of my head due to two accidents, and one "event" where I pulled a gun in a fraycis where a pair of guys hit and ran me, then I boxed them up, at least 3 different times I was given my gun and ammo back with no reprecussions, and that was in california! I am gonna find some wood to knock on though.

Never heard of such a thing. Lived in MI all my life and from time to time have heard arguments about installing cameras at intersections that would be used to give tickets but I always understood that a stop by an officer was required to issue a ticket in Michigan. Maybe just that the officer had to witness the infraction. I don't know, but I've never been mailed a ticket or know of anyone who did.

Riptrack44,

Is it a law in your state to announce that you are carrying? Here, I don't offer any info that is not asked for. If I was asked to step from the vehicle, I would immediately inform the officer if I am carrying, but for a routine traffic stop, I would not say anything unless asked.

Yes, if you're pulled over in my state you need to identify yourself as a CCW holder. Our conceal carry law is only a year and a half old. I was amazed this state opted for one. Oh, and this state recognizes no other state's license. Cities and towns can still have an ordinance against conceal carry but we're working on that and it will be solved in a positive way...
