I used the money from the Torino to help get some work done on the 86 Allegro. I know some people would not use the money that way. But the Allegro is meant to serve a extremely important purpose I need it for. Not just to live in. I already got two new ac on top and done a lot of work on it last summer. I also want to travel.
I hit the ground running as soon as the Torino was gone. I drove to several auto parts stores buying parts for the 454. I did an oil change and got started on the spark plugs. I do believe the spark plugs and wires are original to the motor. I had a battle to get them off the 454. I was exhausted just pulling and twisting the wires off the plugs. I gapped and replaced every plug. I found one of the distributor terminals was bent and loose. So I rushed to O'Reilly for a new HEI cap. They had one hanging on the shelf. I did a brain and rotor transplant and installed the new cap. I managed to get all that done on last Sunday.
The 454 has less than 50,000 miles on it. The oil came out clean and the spark plugs show no signs in internal damage. But there is signs the motor idled a lot.
I took a deep dive into the old vacuum lines the following morning. Boy this is where things get real interesting. Lets say I took more than one trip to O'Reilly to buy more lines. I did not mind because the girl there was cute as a button, and was open to me flirting with her (she agreed to a date but declined shortly later). I have no idea who or why they were modifying the vacuum lines. They had no idea what they were doing. What makes it all the more jarring is the diagram is right there on the air cleaner. I spent five hours working on the lines. I know I will have to revisit them later. Good thing I know what I am doing, and decided to really look into it. The ball shape vacuum canister is broken and I can not find the brake booster vacuum line. I found more diagrams on the internet that the vacuum orb assist the brakes. So I ordered a replacement off summit. There is dorman factory replacement vacuum orbs. But I decided to upgrade.
I decided to try to fire her up after all that work. I bypass the fuel tank at the rear of the RV. But I could not get the motor to draw fuel from the gas can. So I decided to bypass the entire system by having the gas can sitting next to the fuel pump. It took a few minutes. But she did roughly come to life. I must had did a terrible job rebuilding the carburetor. Instead of fuel being drawn through the air horns. The fuel is going through the top of the carb and pour through the butterflies. It did not maintain idle. But it ran without backfiring, and no smoke. I ordered a fresh carburetor when I ordered the new vacuum canister.
This motorhome belonged the the same family for its entire life before I bought it. But who ever was the family mechanic should never, ever turn a wrench again.
If I am making any mistakes. Please tell me.

A long project to reach your desired vision is a mind clearing distraction from life's frequent speed bumps.

I wish you success.
Thank you. I will work on it more tomorrow. I will replace the metal fuel lines and clean the tank once I get the 454 sorted out. I have great goals that I am laying out for myself that I am willing to suffer for to see them through. The Allegro is just one of the small parts of a much larger picture. The Torino was a necessary sacrifice.
