Can the 45 GAP be used in the S&W GOV?? I know the 45-acp, and 45 long colt, as well as 2.5 410's can be used in the Gov. How about 45 auto rim? Thanks!!

Gov

As far as I understand,no autorim. I doubt .45GAP also. Good Luck.

Any clip-loaded revolver that is chambered for .45 ACP will also safely fire .45 GAP from the same clips. The clips control the headspacing. I see it often at the range.
Any .45 ACP clip-loaded revolver I have tried will shoot the .45 Auto rim, although I have not tried the Gov.

The Governor's cylinder will not close with .45 Auto Rims loaded. The reason is simple - there is a vestige of the cylinder's original OAL left as an outter ring for .45 Colt (... and .45 Schofield) and .410 shotgun shell rims to headspace on. It will chamber and fire moonclipped .45 GAPs just like .45 ACPs - but why would you want to - that ammo is not as easily found or nearly frugal as the .45 ACPs. The .45 Schofield will be difficult to find, too!

I love mine - best addition, for recoil control, is the S&W/Hoque .500 Magnum monogrip:

The WallyWorld 250 packs of UMC .45 ACP ball ammo will hit POA at 12yd - as does the Speer 250gr Gold Dot JHP .45 Colt.

.45 GAP can be used with moonclips on the GOV.
Accuracy might not be stellar with that long cylinder and resulting bullet jump.

But it works...

Actually 45 GAP shot quite accurately in my Governor, surprisingly so. My LGS had a sale on Winchester White Box 45 GAP for $12 a box so I bought a lot of it.

@ Stainz

The impact absorber hogues look pretty nice on the governor, and that's coming from someone who dislikes the rubbers.

Thanks all to the response to my ?'s. I looked dummy me and saw about no auto rim cartridge in the inst book that came with the Gov. I was just wondering about the gap cartridge not that I ever would shoot any in this piece. I love the S&W .500 Mag monogrips on your Gov I bet that really does help with recoil.. Again Thanks......:):)

At that price I don't blame ya..

I've been told that some revolver shooters in uspsa matches use the 45 Gap in competition due to faster reloads with the shorter length. I was able to borrow six from a friend and they shot quite well in my Gov. Once I get my reloader set up a box of Gap could go a long way towards developing a quick reload package.
