Was in my LGS browsing, well actually picking up a Sig 938 I got on a trade. While waiting for the Staties to call in my confirmation, I spied a 3rd gen Smith a sittin' all alone in the corner of the used case.
A lightly used 3914, with two 8 round mags. Ambi decocker, and factory grey grips. Only the slightest bit of blue worn at the muzzle, appearing that it's holster wear.
She came home with me, $265.00 out the door.
Well off to the range, [actually on the way home] and boy does it shoot smooth!!!!! Digested ball, EFMJ and Hydra-shocks without a single hitch. Planned on making it my truck gun, but with that accuracy, and the way it feels, it might just move on up to carry status!!!

Here's a few pictures.

Great gun and great price....... take half of the money you should have had to spend and buy that gun a new pair of shoes.........

Hogue checkered wood grips..... a lighter shade to set off the blue gun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Considered a set, but they tend to make the grip thicker. It's so dang thin right now, and the checkering on the factory plastic still crisp.......Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

I've been using them since the early 90s on 3913/14s makes the 3914 look and "feel" like a chopped 39 ASP/Trapper from the 80s.......

Got a pic for me?

That is a very nice looking 3914. They don't come up for sale all that often, especially at the price you paid.

Congrats
Thanks. I had to jump on it. I NEVER see these guns available, so when the moment makes itself available.....
SCORE!!!!!!

Sorry half-lug, we have a "house rule" not posting pictures on the internet.....LOL shot myself in the _______ foot (I meant foot) when I made that rule one night at dinner....... LOL

Trapper ASP and a couple others chopped Model 39s in the 80's the inspiration for the 3913 and 6906s.

I actually know a guy with an ASP, but somehow recall it being built from a 469????

I stumbled onto a 3914NL about five years or so ago. $300.00 out the door. It had only two Pro Mags, but I've since accumulated enough real magazines that it's not an issue.

Half Lug, you definitely scored! Great gun at a great price. I need to get out more & see if i can be "in the right place at the right time" like you were.

Do you happen to know if Novak will install tritium tubes in their non-night sights? The Novak's that came with this beauty are non-nites, in perfect condition. Night sites would make this great gun even bettah!

Nice score!! That's a heck of a deal IMO, and it also has the rarer dark-gray grips. I also own an older 3914 with the flatter safety levers and they are some great guns. Hope you enjoy yours! :D

Does anyone know which model the dark-gray grips were originally intended for?

I'm thinking it might be more cost-effective to find a decent deal ($125 or less) on some already assembled Trijicons for this gun. And I think the dimensions might differ from factory a little due to the space needed to house the sight tubes.

Trijicon model SA24 will be the Novak version that will look just like your factory sights. You can sometimes find some deals on eBay or Amazon for these, but I often find the best deals of the moment with a little time & google. :)

Wow what an awsom deal,
Love to find a 3914 like that and at that pice to go with my 3913!

halflug totally misread your post........ I thought you were saying the 3914 had "dead" night sights..........

Probably...... just better/cheaper to get a new front/rear sight(s) from Novack's.... there use to be a lot of debate whether or not you need a rear night sight........ I only like rear night sight if a different color or if they are dimmer.

IF.....
I do decide to go with the night sights, I'd prefer to go with Ameriglo CAP sights....but they don't offer them for this old timer. Perhaps straight 8's or XS bigdot.

I run the CAP sights on all my Glocks....brite lime green square up front with tritium, and just a horizontal bar rear. lightning quick.

Congrats! :) Great price on the finest single stack 9mm carry gun made. By anyone.

I never understood why the 3914's can be found often for less than $400, while the 3913's are often near $600 bucks OTD.

The 3914 is a VERY underated and under appreciated pistol. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI

I think that they fly under the radar because the Stainless versions are sexier. I forget why I was in that particular gun shop the day I found mine, but I wasn't looking for a 3914, let alone a 3914NL. Which I didn't find out existed until after I had it for a year or so.

This is the same shop where I got my 3914TSW. That one popped up on their website and by then I KNEW what it was and grabbed it! :D

Nope, ASP's were all built from M-39s.

Devel offered a "chopped" M-59; dunno about any ever done on a 469. AFAIK, the 3914/13 and 469 is what killed both of these- ASP and Devel- custom offerings.

I had two ASPs. That pistol had a serious flea; the baking process used to apply the Teflon finish cooked the temper out of the aluminum frame, rendering it "dead-soft"; and the frame would eventually start peening where the barrel lugs mated with the frame.

Both of mine exhibited this, and if allowed to progress (and the only way to prevent that was to not shoot it) it would eventually render the piece unusable. So I sold both of mine while they were still salable- and before the appearance of the 3914/13.

I wish now that I kept one, for oddball/curio sakes. It was an interesting pistol.

.

Congrats on a excellent find and very reasonable price. The 3914 is the red headed step child to the 3913. I personally can not see or feel any difference in shooting either one. Granted the 3913 doesn't show holster wear as bad, but overall the 3914 is just as good.

Gary, I'd love to see a photo of the 3914TSW! Never heard that it was produced in the TSW variety. Really cool!
