I love this Season of the year - Not too warm, light breezes, trees beginning to leaf - but man, the dang grass grows so fast! So, here is what I did, I got me a new ride:

My Old Ride: John Deere 42” Model LX255

My New Ride: Hustler 48” Model FasTrak Super Duty (without the roll-over bars)

Get some goggles and a helmet to complete that fighter pilot experience with the new ride!

I love cutting the grass!

I haven't been able to cut it it 2 years though!

This year, however... I get first crack when it's time.. We have 4 acres of our property that we cut, so it takes a while... but I love it! (actually, we're looking into expanding our yard!)

I was driving home a little past midnight last night (it was still a bit over 60 degrees.. windows open..) and drove by a stretch of fresh cut grass.... God I love that smell!

Nice ride, by the way!

I've mowed my lawn at home three times and around the barn at the farm twice already. The total that I mow is about four acres. I use a John Deere 445 22hp garden tractor with a 54" cut. It's a nice rig. All my equipment started just fine this year, chain saw, mowers, blower and trimmer. The thing is it's fun now but It will start getting old later in the year...

The first mowing is scheduled later today after it warms up some, just in the 40's right now. I am dreading trying to start the mower for the first time of the season. It has a mind of it's own. I miss my yard in the country where I could put some calves on the lawn if the mower didn't start. I sold my place a couple years ago after my wife passed and am renting a house in town. I just don't like yard work.

If y'all like mowing the grass so much, you can come on over and cut mine. I hate yard work. all of it. I'm suprised my neighbors haven't sent me a dirty note about my yard.

Toro Z-Master for our little 5 acres of Indiana Heaven! 27hp Kaw. v-twin. Smokin' machine!

Debra the Gardener is out mowing as I type. Beautiful Spring day, nice breeze, smell of freshly cut grass wafting thru the house and I'm stuck inside recovering from a little hiccup my heart had last week.

Let the "grass cutter" do the job, Indiana - at least until you are fully recovered - Oh, did I tell you that my new ride also carries a hot Little number, 23 HP Kawasaki?

The thing I always liked best about that type (besides the zero turn radius!) was the way you could hoist the deck and block it making blade removal for sharpening so much easier than pulling an entire deck out from under a conventional. Nice Ride Pete!

Yes, I always hoisted the JD tractor as well - that way even this oldfella can remove and reinstall the blades with ease... I do need to get accustomed to the way this new one maneuvers; easy does it to start with, otherwise it's dangerous.

Thanks Pete!

I mowed with conventional lawn tractors for years and thought that I'd really hit it big when I got my first hydrostat rig.

But I gotta tell ya, there's nothing like these zero turn machines. You're gonna love yours.

That's a nice machine. I have a 16 HP John Deere tractor and it does the job around here. I have to agree with a previous writer...I HATE yard work. I would have made a poor farmer.

Yup, it's greenin' up real good here. Someday I'm gonna have to buy a mower, but so far the antelope and prairie dogs are doin' the job.

Got a half inch of snow last night, Yippee!!!

What I really need is an industrial strength bush hog.

Not trying to hijack Oldfella's lawn mower thread, which his new mower looks mighty sharp by the way, but hey Iggy-----what part of the state are you in? Those wouldn't be the bighorns in the background would they? Looks like the area between Gillette as you are approaching the Bighorns if I had to guess. I love Wyoming---if I ever left KY, this is where I would want to be.

You guys that 'like' to cut the grass must have some sort of sickness going on. There a hundreds of other things I'd rather be doing than riding around on my lawnmower.

I thought it would be cool as well when I as a young kid, but after about the 3rd time it got really old. Kind of like shaving, seems very cool until you have to do it every day.

KS.

SE Wyoming Elk Mt. between Laramie and Rawlins.

Y'all might be interested on my next move. Instead of buying the grass bagger (pricey), I upped for the Accelerator grass catcher, about one fourth the price of the standard bagger. Although a bit heavy for this oldfella, this thing can be put on and taken off in about couple of seconds - Ideal for me as I like to mow without it for the first couple passes around the property, It works like a charm, and are made to fit just about any zero-turn mower - check it out.
