Hi folks- Just wanted to intro myself. I am 54 and just bought my first gun. I did an awful lot of research and purchased a 642 airweight for $375 new. Pretty happy with that price and happier with the instrument. I spend quite a bit of time in foreclosed properties here in metro Phoenix. Some of these areas are pretty bad and I have been in some uncomfy situations. Not to mention, I have been in some in nicer parts of town as well. I have spent some time shooting this gun at the local range at 10 ft, 20 ft and 30 ft. I went through a box and a half of .38 caliber yesterday, that was enough. I do not seem to be getting the sore hands that I read about. I am gong to take a CCW class. It is not necessary out here, you can carry concealed without a permit. But, knowledge is good and I think it would bode well in my favor if anything ever does happen. So, my objective is to practice alot and smarten up. Okay, I am off to lurk and see what I can here. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Hello the camp and welcome to the forum from central Oklahoma. I think you're wise to take a CCW class, if for nothing else other than the education. I think you will find it sobering regarding the law and your responsibilities if you choose to carry. Check in here at the forum and ask lots of questions. Like I tell my co-workers, there's no such thing as a stupid question, but there is such a thing as a stupid mistake.

Welcome aboard from a transplanted Desert Rat

Hi SG,
I was born and grew up in the Valley of the Sun. Or as one DJ used to call it in the summer "The Valley of the Blazing Sun".

I ended up in California after the military and that is where I still am. I have lost all of my family in Arizona, but still like to go back an visit occasionally.

I think you are wise to attend the CCW class and you are certainly doing the right thing by practicing a lot with you weapon.

Good luck with your new S&W and I hope you never have to use it except at the range.

thanks Gang--I appreciate the welcomes very much. I have to say, I belong to quite a few other forums(cooking, drumming, sports) and have not received that warm of a welcome...Think I may have to dig in nd hang for awhile.....

Welcome from Texas smgardner. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Your reasoning is sound. Learn all you can and be as proficient as you can be.
