Hello all. Great forum. I have a mid 50's J Frame revolver. Can anyone tell me when S&W started stamping the model number on the inside of the frame under the cylinder yoke and on the yoke itself? Serial of the gun is 111XXX. the number on the yoke and frame are 37 in one stamp and 092 in a slightly smaller stamp size. I have been told these are assembly numbers, not a model number. Any help from the experts would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome from Texas BikerTrash. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Back in the day the serial number was on the butt of the revolver of the J frames most of the time.
