Grip effect on value?

Here's a picture of my M27-0, showing the target stocks it came with.

What do you fellas think about these stocks? They are NOS Jay Scott target grips.

Well, they ARE wood, but look nothing like anything S&W used. In my eye, they don't look any better than the rubber Pachies you have on their now.

Since you asked, I personally wouldn't put them on my gun. If you want to pick up a set of correct stocks, keep watch on ebay because occasssionally they show up and every once in a while you'll win a set for a decent price. Also, they show up here in the classified on occassion.

A few weeks back I picked up a set of unrelieved diamond targets, on ebay, for $99. They were advertised poorly and represented as K frame stocks. The pictures were poor, but they appeared as though they may be N frame. As it turned out, they are very nice condition N frame stocks and are happy as can be on my 5" pre M 27. I figured I couldn't lose either way as they'd be nice on either one of my pre 17's.

You can always list those other stocks on ebay to help out with the cost.

Better???

Man, I hate to say it, but I just do not like the looks of the new S&W 'Classic' stocks... I don't know where they are made, but they have that 'made in Asia' look to me.

You have a beautiful gun there, as others have mentioned, just look around (be patient, they'll come around...) and get a nice set of period correct diamonds; they will look great on that gun....

It doesn't matter what we think or like. It's your gun put the grips on it that you like and that fit your hand the best. Just keep an eye out for the correct grips for it just to have them. I like the new S&W grips on it the best. I like the way they feel on my new 29 Classic but I wouldn't call them Classic. I found a set of N Frame Targets setting on a work bench in the gun shop I used hang out at. They priced them to me for $25. Now they'er on the 29-2 I just bought.

As far as value, it's only worth what somebody will give you.
Not everybody is a collector or purist, so after market grips might bring a higher price.

Just my .02 cents worth.
