have a 4013, single stack. I went to take the grips off to put in a lighter hammer spring and I can't ge the grips off. I drifted out the pin at the bottom of the rear of the grip but the grips won't slide off. They adhere to the sides of the frame.

I just assumed that removing the pin at the bottom rear of the grip frame would release the grips. What am I doing wrong.

I want to put in a 18 lb hammer spring.

need some help/I have the spring from Wolffs.

I usually place my punch into the "D" shaped hole at the bottom of the grips and tilt them up towards the tang. you'll have to spread them slightly to clear the frame. Make sure your hammer is down to relieve pressure on the spring.

Thanks Handgunner and Denver. It's been 20 years since I owned a 3rd generation Smith and it came without box or manual.

Appreciate the help. This was a police trade in and the slide rails didn't show any signs of polish or wear.

Thanks again.

Had a few minutes to spare this morning so I sat down and followed your instructions.

Grip came right off and the Wolff 18lb spring was installed and grip placed back on the weapon. Now I need to shoot it for function with the lighter hammer spring.

I only shoot factory ammo in my 4013.

Appreciate the help.

Just received my new factory grips in today for my 4013. When I bought the gun it had Hogue wraparound grips on it. They were kinda thick and made my grip on the gun uncomfortable. It took about two minutes to change into the new grips. Now the gun feels much better in my hand. This was a very timely posting for this thread, the little tutorial made it very simple to change. Now it's time to go burn some powder.
