Just picked this up. Looking to swap out the original grips. I like wood personally. Any ideas on grips would be appreciated.

I dig these for a K frame round. Also VZ has some good ones but not wood.

Ahrends make some good grips. I've used his retro non-finger-grooved model on a 3" 65 RB with good results. I also recommend his tung oil finish. It's smooth so it doesn't grab onto clothing if you're carrying concealed but it gives a pretty good, non-slick grip in the hand.
I'm also a big fan of Spegel boot grips, but last I heard his waiting list was about a year long. You may be able to find them for sale from time to time.
While not wood and probably wouldn't win a beauty contest, I found PGS Hideout stocks to work really well for me with K-frames, but I have smallish hands. I think they're around $20 from Brownells, so it's not a huge loss if they don't work out for you.

Ahrends , Retro Target or Retro Combat , in the exotic wood of your choice.
The model 58 in my avatar has his Retro Combats in dark red cocobolo as does a model 64 K-frame , ordered them at the same time and the woods match perfectly .
Kim Ahrend uses real wood , not laminate aka plywood, most Altamont and Pachmayer grips are now all "laminate" and Laminates are not near as attractive as mother nature grown wood . Check out Ahrends.

Original K frame Magnas with a Tyler T adapter sounds good to me and I plan on doing just that to a 65 I am about to obtain. Alternatively, faux ivory with a Tyler T. My third choice is any type of larger, wooden grips, custom or not. But if you have a set or see one that you like, by all means, all that wood pictured is beautiful stuff!

Culina grips are the way to go if want a show gun. . .around $200. Always listed on EBAY. Ahrends are utilitarian but cheap. . .around $80 also on EBAY. They are good if you are going to carry and use the gun. Altamonts have always appealed to me. Same price as Ahrends but a lot better looking. . .laminated wood in opposition to solid wood. Keith Brown Ropers would be the way to go, but, for K Frame Round butt, there are just never any on the secondary market. He can make you a pair for around $400 in a year or so. You can also go with the original Smith & Wesson combat grips from the 1980's. They are out there, look good, and will cost around $300 when you find a pair. Actually, for most of my K frame round butt guns, I use the Magna grips that came with them. That's about the smallest profile you can get on the gun, and they just look "right" for some reason.

When I had one & carried it, it wore the Pachmyers open backstrap (can't remember which model). Yes, they were ugly, but made shooting easy & concealed well. Still miss that gun...

+1 for the Ahrends Retro Combats! I just received a set in Cocobolo purchased from a fellow forum member and installed this afternoon on my 66-4.
Perfect fit and these may become somewhat "special" as Cocobolo wood now appears to be restricted to some degree as an endangered species.

Do they still make those? Every review I have seen from amazon regarding pachmayr grips has been horrible. Shame, I like the way they look.

Had to chime in here. We have such a large selection of grips (wood, G10, rubber, and laser enhanced grips!) that I can't imagine you wouldn't find something you'd like. I've included the link to our website if you'd like to take a look. We're now making laser enhanced grips too (and they're less expensive than Crimson Trace).

Big difference in looks from the "laminated wood" grips.
Kim Ahrend knows how to shape them to fit a human hand also.
For the price he charges they are a bargin.

I had a set of these S&W R/B Targets for my 3" M65-5, and I thought they were on the gun when I sold it. So when I picked up this M66-1 yesterday and went to the grip box looking for wood to replace the rubber - there they were. "Life is Good!!" These fit my hand great and should work well for CC/OWB. Also for some reason I seem to prefer wood grips that have medallions.

That's it! That's what I need. Now I just need to find some.
Another recommendation for RB targets. I have a Model 19 with them and they are about perfect for my hands. I like them much better than SB targets.

Wow J-RIP, you and DevilDog72 with those nice looking 4" barrel RB M19. Yes yours are the smooth R/B targets vs. the checkered. I actually slightly prefer the smooth. I wish S&W still made those. PEN
