I bought a .38 with Hogue grips. The thing hurts to shoot. I was looking for some Pachmayrs but the didn't seem to have a real cushy grip for that model. Actually my wife liked the gun, but I think the model 36 would be better for her. Anyway, I told her how it would kick, but she liked the way it fit her hand.

Without a lot of thinking (I had to do SOMETHING) I got the Hogue monogrip. It feels great in my hand and my wife likes it. but I have yet to shoot it.

Does anybody know of a really cushy grip for j frames?

I'm probably out-of-touch, but the Pach Compacs used to be "cushion-y." Only way we could shoot 70s-era +Ps in RB J-frames. If you have a J-frame, perhaps they still make their Presentation grip for Js. Fits both RB and SB, but huge! Does a great job of cushioning recoil on J-magnums, but not a design for concealed carry. Are you talking about a J-frame grip?

I'm out of touch because I have little experience with various grips. I was looking at the 'Decelerator' Pachmayhs, but they don't fit round and square butt J frames (unless they do both and the website is misleading. I don't want to lose concealability, Perhaps the Hogue monogrip I've got will do well, I'll try it out soon. I may also put them on my square butt mod 36. Just to satisfy myself, I may just contact pachmayr and let them tell me what the grip chart doesn't show. Thanks a heap.:)

For explanation, I have two J frames. An alloy mod 38 Airweight with Hogue two piece grips that I replaced with a Hogue monogrip. I'm pleased at how they feel but haven't range tried them.

I also have an all steel model 36 with wood grips that work fine, but I might try the monogrip on that.

Anyway, I would like to know what Pachmayr has to off, I'll contact them soon.

Look weird, but gives you lots to hold onto. Narrow, cushioned grip.

Good luck.

Adios,

Pachmayr Compacs are reasonably cushioned and reasonably concealable. They start off rather "sticky" when new, but that disappears with use - sweat, powder residue, dust, etc. all work to minimize that new-rubber feel. I have a set of Decelerators for a J frame and they are even more cushy, but a LOT bigger. Not what I would call concealable unless you have very baggy cover garments.
