Grips

I have not dealt with 44 maggert, but have seen his work, and it is fantastic. I have Culina's and they are great. I believe they can offer checkering too. I have several sets. Craig Spegel makes some beautiful stuff. I love his checkering. I have Spegels on a M19, and on a Browning HP.

I think my next set will be Herrett Jordan Troopers in figured walnut. I like them.

I have one set of combat Ahrends too, and they are nice.

Actually, Curt's handle here on the site is 44magget, no "r". But , you are right, his work is fantastic. I have about 8 pairs of his grips. He is a wonderful person and a delight to deal with. Unfortunately, he is having surgery done for carpal tunnel. So, it will be several months before he is ready to make some grips again. I also talked to Ken, bigmtnman, and he is taking a break also. He says the cold and his joints aren't playing well together. If it was me, I would wait until they're back at it. They are that good. Now, if you can't wait I would suggest Culina for wood, and Pat Grashorn for stags. I have never dealt with them but I have never seen anything but top quality work by them either. I like Hogue fancy wood, smooth. They fit my big hand well. Here is a pic of a 629 with a set of Hogue's I got off a forum member a while back. I also included a pic of the same gun with a set of Ahrend oil finish grips. Nice grips, but probably a better fit for someone with a normal sized hand. You see them for sale used.
